The problem with trading Monroe.

Post#1 » by SamFlow » Sun Feb 9, 2014 9:47 am

The problem is we would have no depth at the center spot.
If foul trouble or bad game get's into AD, who is going to play center?

If getting a 3 shooting sf comes in and moving Josh over to pf, that could be fine. But no other center that is decent.

...

The problem with Monroe. He is a center. He is NOT a PF.
The problem with Monroe at center is he does not block shots. He does not scare anyone coming into the lane. This is why AD is playing center. If Monroe could block shots, you could have AD defending pf's.

Josh is the better PF. Monroe is almost more valuable because he is a center.
...

The biggest thing is what we get in return. It will be difficult to get a capable center and a really good small forward for Monroe. But that is what he is worth. Jason Thompson would be a capable center type. Not great, not bad. You could deal with him in a pinch. and a Harrison Barnes type.
...

If any trade is done that is significant, it will probably have to be a multi team deal. Boston, Suns.... what one team has both they would trade for either Monroe.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Monroe is definitely a luxury I hope we keep or replace with another center. I was thinking maybe a 3 way with Houston and NO. We get Gordon and Asik and give up Monroe Stuckey and CV with Ryan Anderson going to Houston and Monroe going to NO

3 team deal

Detroit gets Ben Gordon (expiring), Cody Zeller, and Jeff Taylor

Orlando gets Greg Monroe

Charlotte gets Josh Smith and Aaron Afflalo

Charlotte can make their push into playoffs this year.

Orlando gets a yuoung big to go with their youth movement

Detroit gets rid of Smiths contract while adding a young stretch PF to play alongside Drummond. Zeller has been getting better and has lots of potential. Can score and his shooting ability could create spacing for AD. Zeller can play a little center to if needed. Taylor is a good high energy guy to bring off the bench and can play SG or SF

Detroit could always get a depth center back in any trade of Monroe.

Well you could always get Davis from Orlando instead of Zeller. Orlando fans like the idea of getting Zeller.

Charlotte gets Afflalo and Smith

Orlando gets Monroe and Zeller

Detroit gets Davis, Gordon expiring, Taylor, and Charlotte second rounder

You do realize that getting Smith out of here for Gordon opens up another $13.5 million in the of season to go with the $17 million from CV and Stuck.

That is $30.5 million to look at free agents, and there is lots of potential in the free agent market this year.

So you guys give up crap and get back Affalo and Smith. While we give up probably the best player in the trade and get back nothin valuable, Makes sense.

Smiths contract is terrible for you guys, and getting rid of it alone is valuable. Saying that a young, very athletic, 7 foot big who can shoot the ball is garbage is beyond dumb. He is a rookie that should be a junior in college right now. Taylor is nothing great, but is a good player off the bench and will give valuable minutes at SF and SG. A second round pick in this years deep draft is a nice throw in. But trust me when I tell you this, I really am not a fan of getting Smith at all. Not many people will be with his crazy contract either. If you expect a lot in return, then I wish you luck. My main motivation in this deal is getting Afflalo. Smith would help us but not at his contract level, Afflalo makes this deal worth it.

I don't care how bad Smith is. We're not going to trade Monroe with him to just dump his contract, That's completely idiotic.
