By that logic though, you could also cite Smith always having to play with Monroe at PF as the reason he hasn't had more success at SF. That works both ways. So I'm not sure how that only equates to Smith being the cause of Monroe's problems at 4. How do we know its not the other way around?
Smith has had success at SF throughout his career, as recently as last years playoffs vs the Pacers. Monroe has never had success at PF. So there's probably more evidence to suggest Monroe has been the cause of Smith's problems than vice versa.
In the end, you don't want either playing those positions full-time.
That's assuming that Josh Smith had a good playoff series against the Pacers last year.
Hint: he didn't. He posted a .482 TS%, only half a block a game, and his rebounding rate was down 8.1 per 36 with a WS/48 of .054.
