The Pistons put Smith in the position to fail, agree. Smith at SF, another low % chucker at PG and a terrible coach who basically gave Smith the green light to do whatever he wants on offense was a recipe for disaster. But boy Smith didnt disappoint, he hasn't changed one bit no matter how bad he shoots the ball.
This was somewhat to be expected when the Pistons signed him. A full-time shift to PF won't change his shot selection at all. Only a great coach could do that, and the Pistons will have a very hard time to find one.
But I am really disappointed in his defense at PF, he is nothing special at all. The best chase scenario is still to trade him for whatever we can get for him. Its just like with Jennings, there are just parts of their games that are fundamentally flawed and have no room on a good team.

From November to February, his shooting percentage as well as his scoring average has risen every month. In February he was 19/8/5 on 45.3%. A lot of this has to do with the general state of the team and coaching. He's 28, I don't think it's a question of his ability falling off a cliff.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Drummond is having a monster season and all people want to talk about on here is other players' negatives. This forum has turned into loserville.

Josh Smith has that effect on a fanbase. That boy is toxic waste. Hell, he's not on our team anymore and I still have to bash the kid for being an idiot.

Sorry he broke your team and got your coach fired.

I feel sorry for you

Indeed!!!!!

That was kinda the whole point of my post...

Hope you guys either make the playoffs or suck bad enough to keep your draft pick. Pistons were always my favorite team growing up. Both the Bad Boys and the Blue Collar warriors with the Wallace boys.

I thought you just said Atlanta was your team. Now you say the Pistons were always your favorite team. Which is it? lol

:D

Grew up in Atlanta rooting for the Hawks, but they were always pretty bad to mediocre. We always got beat up by Boston/Chicago/LA.

I always rooted for Detroit against those glamour franchises and you guys had WAAAAAAAYYY more success against them than we evr did.

Detroit basketball has a history of great players, legendary coaches, division dominance and championship caliber teams.

I root for Atlanta because I'm from there.

I root for the Pistons because they were able to stand up to all the bullies that the Hawks could never beat. (Jordan, Kobe, Bird)

But since we're talking favorite teams:

NBA-Hawks/Pistons/Spurs
NFL-Falcons/49ers
MLB-Braves all day and night baby!!!

Return to Detroit Pistons
