Re: Doug McDermott?
How does Doug McDermmott compare to Adam Morrison? I haven't seen much of him honestly. They have relatively similar numbers in their final years.

Their shooting stats aren't really similar. shooting 40% from 3 and shooting 45% is a massive difference.
They're different people. Additionally, you can't use Morrison as a measuring stick of NBA trajectory. Morrison was a natural 3, Doug is a 4. Also, Morrison had his knee blow out on him early on and that was really the end of him. On top of the fact that Morrison has diabetes to top it off.

So win the lottery OR package our #8 with Monroe to move up to #4? Or use #8 to move Smith out and fall down until the mid-teens?
I say just trade #8 for ~#16 and a top 5 protected 1 next year to make up for the one we owe Charlotte. Smith is too good to use assets to dump him and his contract times up with Drummond that he'll be an expiring the first year Drummond is expensive. If someone wants to give value for Smith we'll take it, otherwise a little more creativity and better coaching can make our front line work (ie only playing two of them at a time).

I'd pass on Adam Morrison 2.0 unless we were picking in the 20s.

The only reason I want us to draft Doug McDermott is because then, maybe, there would be some Pistons gear available for me to purchase in Omaha.

Anderson-Monroe
We would need to play a 80 pace to be effective

Re: Doug McDermott?
If were drafting #8 I'm going for whoever falls that's currently projected 1st-7th, Gordon or I'm trading down in that order. I really feel that Monroe is a center so he and smith need to be moved and we go fresh in a different direction. We have a better chance of fixing Jennings game than smiths in my opinion so moving smith and holding onto Jennings seems like a better idea

Agreed. Or or package him with something on draft day. There is no NBA comp for Doug that makes me want to pick him in the lottery. He's basically a shorter Novak.
have you really watch Doug play? like even once?
this is just crazy, not even a little kid with 0 bball knowledge will compare those two after watching them play.
Doug is a Wally World version with better shooting touch and moves, but less strength, but he can easily add 20-25lbs in the NBA and be at that level if he puts the work.
And Wally was an All Star and a 18ppg scorer with pretty good % his whole career, Doug can easily do something like that.
I think in a 8-14 range, he is a pretty safe pick if you know what you are getting and how to use him.
I'd like him here, if you get a strong defensive PG, plus keeping Smith-Drummond inside.

They are nothing alike.
Morrison was a 1on1 player that needed the ball in his hands and played heroball, Doug is mostly an offtheball weapon, he has a terrific post game, he has NBA range and his mechanics are better, he does not run hot and cold, he is always working during games, moving around, terrific offtheball movement, he is a better rebounder and defender than Morrison, stronger build also.
Doug is a system player and you need to know how to use him, he will thrive in a Popovich/Sloan/Carlisle/Stotts (...) team, he wont be a 1st option for you normally, but he will work and he is a pretty smart player, in a team with a Center like Drummond he will be pretty useful if you get a real coach.

Did you not watch Novak in college? I cannot wait til Doug plays.

Re: Doug McDermott?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
DO NOT WANT.
Seriously, we are not this desperate for shooting. The kid simply doesn't have a position. He's too slow to guard any SF, and he's too short (in terms of both height and reach) and weak to play PF. Guys like Milsap can play because they've got long arms to compensate for being short for their position, but Doug has fairly short arms. This guy will not be able to guard anybody at all. He's a shooter off the bench, not a top 8 pick. We can get knock-down shooters without any athleticism in any form for cheap off the streets. Like that 40 year old at your local rec center who never misses.
If we're going for an unathletic shooter in this draft, it should be Kyle Anderson. He can run the point on offense, is taller and significantly long than Doug; better at getting steals/blocks/rebounds by a country mile. Excellent passer, and despite his look, already heavier and stronger than Doug is. He'll be a bigger contributor in the NBA.

If we`re going unathletic, role playing stretch 4 at # 8 id rather go with Anderson.
Edit- I really have to start reading previous posts before I post, but I have to agree with Noob on this one.

I've read the writeup on the draft forum and recommend it. Manual Ram has a solid writeup on him and stated that Morrison is not a good comparison because Doug is a better shooter and Morrison relied on ISOs. Doug is more catch and shoot, moving well off the ball, etc. All the people there struggled to come up with a solid comparison for him.

Re: Doug McDermott?
I very much like McDermott as a player, and am most in awe of his off-ball abilities. He just knows when to cut and go back-door and how to use screens, everything. I worry that he'd need all four teammates on the court to be willing, intelligent passers in order to maximize his offensive contribution and mitigate his defensive deficiencies.
