Sorry it couldn't be the answer you wanted. Nice try with the introduction of your lil wood measuring contest though with your "I knoweth more than thou" tone.

I know the justification for celebrating perfectly well, you were the one who implied I didn't.

What I don't understand is how anyone can look at the entire situation and determine that this loss is a good thing. I can only conclude that people are thinking about nothing but having the pick this year, they aren't looking at the same big picture I am. Only one part of it.

Rudy gay got trade with 60 mill left on his deal. We all know Josh is not a good fit. With every loss our chances at a top 3 pick increase. Yes it's slim, but it's increasing an increasing rate. It's very sad thinking to only look at the negatives. Electric mayhem said it perfectly. If you had 20k in student loans and found a $20, would you be sad about the $20 and just leave it? I don't think so.

Yeah, this. Lighten up.

You do realize we're stuck with the 2 guys that torpedoed this game for years, right? In fact they'll be major early influences on whatever KCP level prospect we manage to draft.

I'm still not seeing how having the number 8 pick is really so much better than losing whatever pick we will lose next year. I think its very short sighted to want the pick this year.

I think it's a combination of:

1. The draft is supposedly especially deep this year and will likely be especially bad next year. So the 8th pick in this draft could be 3-4th pick value-wise in a normal draft. Whereas if we were to get a top 3 pick next year we could be paying relatively big money for a non-lottery prospect.

2. I believe that the Pistons will be much improved next year due to:
a. newer/better GM
b. a coach that actually coaches
c. The slim prospect that Smith could be traded during the offseason (Talk of a Smith trade at the deadline means they are at least thinking about it)
d. More effecitve discipline of Smith/Jennings shenanigans. With the season they just had they really can't hide behind their big contracts. Noone would look badly if they were sat for long periods next season due to ineffectiveness. They've effectively worn out their excuse of being new and having big contracts as a reason to bend / ignore team rules.
e. The hopeful development of KCP and Drummond under a better coach. These guys have not reached their ceiling obviously so in theory I'd like to believe they will continue to improve next year.
f. Monroe's development of an outside shot. If you've been watching games as of late he HAS been hitting it and has been shooting it a little more. He's not a three point threat by any means but he's developed a nice 15 foot jumper that teams should start to respect more if things continue their course.

3. Waiting another year for a draft pick implies that we will be terrible again next year to make it a good one. I honestly think that noone wants that to happen :)

I've seen enough coaches come and go, its hard to be excited about another changing of the guard. The ownership really hasn't given me much room for optimism as far as effectively replacing the high command, either.

People are assuming Monroe will be here next year? I guess that explains some, too. I'm not. I think there's every possibility we'll be just as bad next year, and worse isn't even out of the question if Monroe is gone.

If Jennings and Smith are still on this team come the end of October 2014, this team will not be much better off next season. Even if we come out of the draft with Wiggins or Parker, this team will still struggle with those idiots commanding so many terrible shots and generally degrading any semblance of positive culture in the locker room.

The more I look at it the more I think that Cheeks was an especially poor fit for this team though. We're a young team that needs hands on attention and Cheeks was a hands-off guy. I think we'd see significant improvement with anything resembling an average fit. More motivation and development.

I'm *hoping* Monroe will be here next year. I think it's completely understandable to be pessimistic with this team based on what we've had to endure as fans the last few years. For some reason I'm still not feeling it though (at least as far as Monroe is concerned).

I could be totally wrong but I just really get the impression that Monroe's a fairly humble guy who just goes to work day in and day out. I think as long as the Pistons don't do anything stupid like not match or lowball him too badly that he's going to come back. I also think that the Pistons realize just what a bad mistake the Smith signing was and know that Monroe is part of the future of this club (based on the messaging of zero interest in trading him at the deadline).

Maybe I have too much faith :)
