We needed defense and discipline (we played a playground park team this season), Thibs offer just that. Drummond will become a defensive anchor with him, Monroe will flourish into a Carlos Boozer type player, while Smith could turn into an around player that will focus more on passing the ball
Flourish into a Boozer type player? That makes me shudder. If that's what he's headed for, I'd say let him walk this off-season.
Monroe in his fourth year is not a better player than Boozer in his fourth year. Granted they both can't defend, but Boozer has a much more polished low post game and he is so much more in shape. Rebounding wise, they have similar stats so I say it's a tie. We can keep saying Monroe is a better passer, but his assist/TO ratio is only a tat better than Boozer's *****Boozer's usage rate is way higher in his Jazz days yet he doesn't turn the ball over as frequently as Monroe who has a less usage rate****
Let's make up a scenario, if we made the playoffs and a prime Yao Ming happened to be in the way, I don't think Monroe can drop 30 or 40 in any of the games. Matter of fact, even if we faced the Bobcats or the depleted Hawk's front court without Hortford, Monroe wouldn't average over 20 points.
I can only imagine what Monroe could do if he's that strong and can hit turn around/face up/midrange jumpers. We keep on saying he's skilled, but that's only another way of saying he's soft. He's a slower Pau Gasol but without jumpers and have only 60% of Pau's IQ (and I'm being generous here).
