It was Datome's rookie season. Let him have a full offseason and see where he is at next year. After next year, we should know his future.

I might be dealing with a limited sample size, but it seemed like Gigi was missing the same way Rip missed 3Ps for a good chunk of his career -- just came up short range-wise.

As italian, i know him very well as player... i can say he's not the kind of player producing with limited PT. He needs to play consistent minutes to produce offensive numbers. In Italy he struggled early in his career when played less minutes and off the bench... if your coach gives him minutes he'll be fine also in the NBA.

I definitely think he can score but his feet are very slow especially on defense, in my opinion if he's going to succeed in the NBA it will be in a combo-forward role off the bench where he can get a lot of touches, Walter Hermann 2.0.

Yeah, his feets are kinda slow and can't guard opposite SFs full-time... i didn't mean he has to be a starter but that he needs consistent minutes (possibly around 20 mpg) so even off the bench.

Hermann was more an interior player while Gigi is better as outside shooter (even if he hasn't show it yet in NBA)... but i can see some similiarities between the two.

The problem is at this level, he has to produce in limited minutes in order to see more time. He's not just going to start because he was a MVP in Europe. At his point he doesn't possess the skill set to be a effective starting SF in the league. and at 26 i highly doubt he's going to get quicker, or more agile.

As i said before , he's going to see NBA minutes if he can put the ball in the hoop, hopefully this was a adjustment period for him and he comes back a lot more confident

Right, but being a decent shooter isn't going to be enough--to give just one example, Steve Novak rarely plays despite being an excellent shooter (and being really tall). To have a shot at real minutes, Gigi has to first improve his shooting and second adapt his other skills to the NBA in order to be an capable passer and defender. I'm pretty sure his experience and his seasoning was why the Pistons decided to take a flier on him, but he's got to show that his experience make him a better all-around player than the younger options. There's a lot of guys in the d-league who can fill it up so he's gotta show he can help a team win more than them.

He never got a chance because of our coaching mess. I think he's got the talent to be a solid role player, we just need a coach that knows how to be a real coach.

The wierd thing is that if he did sign with SAS, i think he'd have decent numbers and thrive in that offense
