Huh?? you don't think melo + rose makes this bulls team a contender?

I have serious reservations that Rose will be a top 10 player again. It's been 2+ years since we've seen him playing MVP caliber basketball. Never a good sign. Who has essentially been out for 2 years and came back as good as they were?

He doesn't have to be. Melo is top 10. If Rose is 80% of what he was that puts them no less than 2nd in the east.

Only way I see this happening would be Melo signing with New York very quickly so Chicago doesn't think there's still that chance.

It's extremely doubtful Rose is ever in that tier again.

Additionally Melo is not a #1, its not popular opinion but as a leader he has been out of the first rd once in his now 10th year.

Melo is at his best when he plays in the Olympics or All Star Games, he plays off of better players/creators.

Pre injury Rose with Melo as his sidekick & Taj being able to get them easy buckets inside could work really well but as Heis & I said, thats very doubtful that Rose is ever that guy again.

Toronto was #3 in the East this year, the East is Miami & then a bunch of teams that would be a 6, 7 or 8 seed in the West.

The only question for an East team should be "are we better than Miami" That team, even with 80% Rose (doubtful) is still not beating Miami.

Judging by how mad Dirk gets at guys like Calderon at times, Dirk would literally murder Josh by game 20.

Not to mention Dirk isnt a Center & Cuban isnt a moron.

We'll have to agree to disagree about Chicago/Miami. Adding Rose and Melo to this year's team does make them equal to Miami.

I do think Smith for Nash is interesting. Nash isn't likely to turn down ~$10 mil to retire if the Lakers keep him, but there's a good chance he might if he's traded. Smith would cost the Lakers an extra $4 mil over Nash but he'd likely give them a lot more than Nash would. They'd still have plenty of cap room to do whatever they want, plus a top 6 pick this year. They owe their 2015 draft pick to PHX (top 5 protected) and I really don't know that Kobe would be willing to mail in another season based upon the Love/Kyrie 2015 hope.

i'll do you one better, how about smennings for nash? The Lakers would still have money to go after a FA like ariza or deng, they could retain pau because of his bird rights, and they'd have their draft pick too.

Jennings would love that trade

Rose isnt going to be the same Rose.

Its hard to speculate because one would assume Miami will look a bit different next year but Half a Rose & Melo on that Bulls team this year doesnt beat this Miami team.

Is Smith that bad? Or would he look better at the 4 instead of ridiculously playing him out of position at the 3?

He'd look a lot better at the 4, we're just extremely frustrated with him. He was an awful fit from the start and this season was a disaster. He can still be an above average 4. He made us all hate basketball at the 3. He cannot be under any delusions that he is the first or second option though.

hes basically the same guy at the 3 & 4 offensively, stats have clearly shown that.

Defensively, he's one of the worst 3's we have ever seen, but he was very good in Atlanta on d at the 4. However some of that is clearly because of his teammates. Common sense would say he is somewhere in the middle of Pistons Josh & Hawks Josh on defense.

Just hope to get rid of Josh somehow. He is talented but low BBIQ players will never work on our team.

It's a few things.

1. Position is one of them - he is clearly a 4 and not a 3.
2. Batman vs Robin - I think Smith is a better complimentary player. Dumars made him think he was our star and everything should be run through him. Smith needs to be a 3rd (or 4th) option. Batman he is not.
3. I wouldn't worry about his D so much. The TEAM D really sucks and that drags everyone down. If the Pistons had a good coach (and a PG that could play D), I think everyone would be happy with Smith's D.
