Schroeder has great upside but the rest of the players don't intrigue me. Gotta get a bit more back for Monroe.

gotta remember that moose is a RFA. we're not likely to receive full value for him. in my opinion, solving the monroe/smith logjam, adding an elite shooting/glue-guy wing, and possibly replacing jennings with a PG who can run an offense and play defense would be pretty good compensation.

Pistons won't do it.

The NBA is a league (and any other pro-level league) where the bottom line is what have you done for me lately. I'll be honest, I could care less what a player has done in the entirety of their career, if they've played at a superstar level the last 3. Would you bring in Kevin Garnett next year to be your starting PF? His career numbers are fantastic!

The point is, the first 6 years of Smith's career don't mean a thing. Monroe's rookie season doesn't mean jack. Kevin Garnett's first 18 seasons don't matter.

Every player, in a most realistic sense, is capable of something similar to what they have done recently. Very rarely do players go from one season to the next, and show drastic improvement or decline for that matter. Sure Monroe might generally improve for the rest of his career. But if you're expecting him to start shooting 3-5% better all of a sudden next season, you're going to be disappointed.

If you're going by what have you done for me lately or who you've been your whole career before this "anomaly" of a season, Josh Smith STILL is a chucker who takes ill advised jump shots. That's his WHOLE career, that's not just a Detroit thing. But that wasn't my point. My point was how can someone arbitrarily just remove the 1st 4 years of someone's career because they were a mediocre ball player, all under the 'guise of "they were learning how to play?" Dafuq? Was Monroe not learning the game? And does the clock start for him right now? I don't get it, I was just addressing the double standard.

Given that Smith came out of high school into the NBA, 4 years of adjusting to this level of play seems appropriate. Monroe came out of college as a relatively pro-ready player, so you can't expect much to change. This is especially true for the Smith/Monroe comparison because Smith was drafted more on his athleticism and potential, while Monroe was a known commodity. I don't expect much to change for either player at this point.

That only applies when the players are of relatively equal value and contract. When you have to trade big because it wants huge contract, you take the best you can get.

Agreed. RMFC, if that's not enough what suggestions do you have? (That is what this thread is about after all!)

Yet, people are expecting Smith to change into something he's yet to be after 10 years.

Monroe for Ryan Anderson and Austin Rivers?

Ryan Anderson is only 2 yrs older on a cheap deal and would fit great with Drummond.

Austin Rivers needs a change of scene and is deep on the depth chart. His dad is Doc Rivers, how bad could he be? He's got talent and fight, just doesn't use it right. Maybe SVG gets him playing the right way.

A 2 for 1 deal that makes sense for both teams and could be worth the risk of trading Monroe. Definitely better than letting him walk. Would still have enough cap space to pursue someone like Ariza.

Trading Smith should still be priority #1 but that won't be easy if we expect any decent value in return. At the very least I expect Smith (and Jennings) to be used right with SVG.

Jennings, Rivers
KCP, Stauskas?
Ariza?, Singler
Smith, Anderson (either or starting)
Drummond

I think NO jumps all over this deal. Davis and Monroe could be epic together. I'd try to get them to throw in their 2016 lottery protected 1st.

I don't think you're getting a first as well, but the Anderson/Monroe deal seems to make a lot of sense, but doesn't it still force Smith to play the 3?

I would think you move Monroe for a PG, SG, or SF.
