Re: Giving up a draft pick this year versus next
With Drummond going down tonight, that's just one reminder of how little it would take for this team to have a top pick next year. There's a lot of confidence that this team will be better next season, but that's all it would take. Drink the poison now and move on. Don't risk giving up as high as a 2 or 3, because that'll be on the table. That's a catastrophic risk. That's why people buy insurance -- to prevent catastrophes. My insurance is to give up the pick now, eliminate it.

You need a good team surrounding Andre to weather an injury to him. Stick in a "good" backup center if he goes down and this ship still sinks with a roster like this or similar to it...unlikely that'll be much different a year from now short of some kind miracle from a new GM. Things would need to go VERY right.jakebernat wrote:DonVitoReturns wrote:With Drummond going down tonight, that's just one reminder of how little it would take for this team to have a top pick next year. Well, I must say that prior to last week I would have been very happy with tonight's lottery result.
HOWEVER...I think the Pistons got their miracle when they hired SVG as coach. He's going to make this crappy roster pretty good next year I believe....in this terrible conference.
So what I thought before couldn't happen (the Pistons being pretty good next year), I now think can happen with SVG.
Making tonight's result somewhat disastrous. Wow. SVG needed this pick. Would have liked to see who he would have selected and what he would have gotten out of it. Unreal.
