I was working on it for hrs with several scenarios. Trying to get a PG or SF I guess I wouldnt draft Stauskus in this scenario or trade him for Hood and a 2nd.

NOW we have the clear picture. No first rounder. Little realistically in the FA pool.

Have SVG sit down with Smith and have him sell ice to an Eskimo and convince Smith to embrace the 6th man role getting 30 minutes a game off the bench.

Re-sign Monroe, match any offer.

Sign a veteran point guard who could still start if necessary. Needs to be able to push Jennings, give SVG the option to start them if necessary, but also accept a support role behind Jennings.

Sign a couple 3&D types for the wings.

Jennings and Smith are untradeable.

Here's my team

Jennings/Marcus Smart/Siva/Will Bynum
KCP/Ben McLemore
Luol Deng/Singler
Patrick Patterson/Mitchell/Jerebko
Drummond/Channing Frye

Trade Monroe for McLemore and the 8th pick (Marcus Smart)

Sign Luol Deng, throw a nice contract at Patrick Patterson, sign Channing Frye

Boom. Your 14-15 Detroit Pistons.

Use the stretch provision on Jerebko.

Trade "future considerations" (nothing!) to Washington for Martell Webster

Sign Wes Johnson

Sign Darren Collison to back up Jennings

Drummond, Monroe, Jorts
Monroe, Smith, Mitchell
Webster, Singler, Johnson
K.C.P, Singler, Webster
Jennings, Collison

Bynum, Siva & #38 make up the rest of the roster

i'd target Meeks as a shooter off the bench and Patty Mills or Vasquez as back up point.
Martell webster would be a nice pick up if Washington are looking to dump him for nothing.

After this lotto debacle our off season just got rough. I think theres a very good chance our starting lineup looks like

Jennings
KCP
Singler
Moose
Dre

With Smith off the bench. If you want to envision what a return for him would look like, it'd be very simlar to Rudy Gay. Players that are serviceable but not building blocks. I'd throw money at Lowry and if we're worried about our wing maybe Deng. We may be in a holding pattern for a season or two unfortunately.

1) Resign Moose - 4 years/48 mil for this exercise

2) Stretch provision both Bynum & Jerebko - saves ~$4 mil off this year's cap

Entering summer:

Drummond/Harrelson
Monroe/Smith
Singler/Datome/Mitchell
KCP
Jennings/Siva

S/B ~ $15-$20 mil in cap room

Target Lance/Lowry/Hayward/Bledsoe. If we can get one spend the necessary money to get it done. If not, rent our cap space like the Jazz and take the Lakers's approach from this past off season and punt, targeting guys like Jimmer, Jan Vesely, Chris Singleton who are young and may be interested in 1 year deals.

The summer of 2015 will likely have Rondo (close with Josh, they've openly talked about wanting to play together), Dragic, Afflalo, Jeff Green in UFA and Jimmy Butler, Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Shumpert, Reggie Jackson, Tobias Harris in RFA.

For the 're-sign Monroe' crowd, not keeping the pick probably benefits that cause, if you're looking for a silver lining.

I could've seen a scenario where they take a PF at 8, allowing them the option to let Monroe walk or just take whatever they could get in a S&T, knowing they had a cheaper replacement waiting in line.

However, now there's probably no chance of them letting two assets go for nothing in one summer. So, unless they get a great offer in a S&T, I kind of expect him to be re-signed now.

Fortunately, with the extra 2 mil in capspace, we're going to have 13 mil to spend now even if we accept Monroe's 10 mil caphold, and potentially 17-18 mil if Jerebko opts out too. So we could end up re-signing Monroe, but still having near max money to maybe take a run at Carmelo anyways.

I think there's a very real chance we have close to the same roster as this season with a few role player shooters mixed in. We will soon be paying large $$$ to two PF and our C. This hangcuffs should come off around...oh 2016-17 for Van Gundy

The handcuffs could come off right now if he wanted. If he chooses to commit that much money to two PFs, that's on him.

It should be noted though that even if they pay Monroe 15 mil/yr, they'll still have a lot more money to spend this summer on FAs than just role player shooters.

And they only have 22 mil committed going into the 15-16 season. So even if they spend 25 mil this summer on Monroe and other FAs, they'll still be at least 16 mil under the cap next summer as well.

Because they have so many players on rookie contracts, they really CAN afford to commit that much to two PFs and still be in a great shape capwise. Whether that is the best use of the money is another question.

I doubt Toronto let Lowry go but we could front load the deal as much as possible to ward off Indiana or impact Phoenix & Utah's cap flexibility.

With what is left over target Darren Collison as the guy to push Jennings

I think people need to be prepared for a very similar roster next year. If smith goes, there's no way we come out winning or with a pick. We'll get back garbage that fits a little better or, most likely, expires sooner. Someone like an Ariza may show up and a back up big. There ya go. Our fireworks already happened with SVG and Dumars' last stand.

Is that something we could start calling us losing our pick?

My offseason would look like:

Draft Joe Harris - lights out shooter.

Sign Lance Stephenson - Attitude aside, I love everything about his game. Physical, strong, can back down, drive, hit the mid range, hit the 3, good handles, crossover. He is a very good defensive player, good rebounder. An underrated passer imo. All around game is impressive. I actually think we have a better chance to get him here than Lowry or Ariza. I think TOR does whatever it takes to keep Lowry. I believe the rumors of Ariza not liking SVG. I think we can make an offer that Indy won't match due to luxury tax and perhaps other teams wont throw out because of his personality. The talent trumps any other issue IMO.

Sign and trade Moose for Ryan Anderson

Sign Wes Johnson - Young defensive player we can plug in and see if he can develop under SVG

Sign Patty Mills - Never afraid to take a big shot, has thrived as Parker's backup

Use next summer as a way to get our starting SF for the future.

Jennings/Mills/Lance/Bynum
Lance/KCP/Harris
Johnson/Singler/Gigi
Smith/Anderson/JJ/Mitchell
Drummond/Anderson/Jorts

Very athletic, defensive starting 5. Second unit provides a lot of scoring. Hopefully Jennings added weight and focus on defense will lead to a better outcome at that spot, but additional defense at the 2 and 3 will help protect his deficiencies better.

Then next summer we go in search of our SF, and in the mean time perhaps develop Wes Johnson into a productive backup.
