But, this wouldn't be your regular GM hiring. Whomever is the GM is effectively just Stan's assistant, doing the dirty work and informing him of the important information.

SVG is running the show.....
No problem with Jackson...

I really, really don't get this whole school of thought. Having a good boss does not lessen the need for good workers. Even though SVG gets the final vote, you want a quality person in the GM position.

Yeah but people are panicking thinking somehow whoever the GM ends up being can single handily wreck this franchise.

With the list of reported candidates there is no "right" or "best" choice if you're looking at their résumé as general managers. All of them are unappealing to say the least. But like Pharaoh said it comes down to more than just the general manager with decision making. It's probably more important to have a good team of talent evaluators (and someone who will listen to them), especially in this case where Detroit's general manager won't have as much authority as you would expect. Though I do agree with thesack12 that whoever the Pistons hire will be more than just a lackey to Van Gundy.

I'd be alright with Jackson. With his long stint as a top league executive he should hopefully have a much vast wealth of knowledge and somewhat of a relationship with multiple front offices. A good negotiator is probably the biggest thing I'm hoping for and Jackson could be that. It's hard to say though. That's hard to get a feel for as a fan when it's not an obvious example (like Ujiri or Morey) and with how long he hasn't been a part of the team side of things it's even a bigger mystery. I will say I'd be willing to take a chance on someone like that as opposed to a guy that's had bigger and more recent failures like Layden.
