I know we all can't stand Jennings, but I honestly believe this. I hope he gets his chance to prove it. I love bynum and everything, and it was f/ucking awesome when he threw one down on Tyson Chandler's head, but there's only 2 PG's on the roster who should be seeing minutes this season...

Yeah and Tony Mitchell is better than Smith! Smh

As soon as Van Gundy realizes the mess he's inherited in Brandon Jennings, which could take some actual regular season games, it wouldn't surprise me if Siva leap frogs him.

Unless Jennings can be unloaded before his contract runs out, Siva may be the best option at PG...

Siva being the best rookie? That's gotta be a typo.

Siva has to prove he can be a rotation backup this season, i am sure Stan will give him a chance to do so.

A lot of players get the label journeyman--but they are contributors. Kwame Brown was a contributor when he was on the Pistons, for a while (not stellar, I know--but he got minutes).

I like having a player like Siva on the team for those times when a quick point guard is mauling our starter. Siva could also be a disruptor, potentially getting an opposing offense out of sync with his intense defense. Still, I want to see more of Siva's defense (barely saw him last year)--does he frustrate the guys he guards? I know he did in college.

Kevin Ollie played 12 or 13 seasons. I didn't mean it as a insult.

Small guys that can't shoot well need to be FANTASTIC with the ball, AWESOME athletes, or AMAZING defenders. Siva isn't any of those, although he's certainly an above-average athlete and defender.

He'll be lucky to get another contract, but if he does, he could stick around a while. 3rd stringer, though.

More than likely, he'll follow the Mateen Cleaves path (minus the way-overdrafted part)... couple years in The League, a few in the D-League, and then off to be a talking head of some variety. He'll almost certainly be better at that than Mateen, who still manages to have a job despite looking like Pacman and running his mouth constantly.

Don't you think Siva's time would be better spent studying old film of Avery Johnson? Duhon was sort of a, I don't know...bum.

I could see him being like a Kirk Hinrich/Luke Ridnour caliber starting PG, or MAYBE a Chalmers/Avery Johnson type guy, who if surrounded by superstars can succeed in that 5th wheel role, who just gets everyone the ball, plays great defense, and makes winning plays.

That's only if he meets his absolute max potential though. Most likely he will be a solid backup like you said.

As a rookie, chalmer put up 10/5 on 42% and 37% from 3. Hinrich 12/7 on 39% and 39%. Siva is at 2/1 on 31%, 28%. Siva has to improve a TON just to get to journeyman status.

Chalmers also started 82 games playing 32 mpg. Hinrich started 66 games (played 76 total) and avg 36 mpg.

So you can't use stats to compare them to Siva when he only played 9 mpg off the bench and 24 games total

My comparison has nothing to do with stats. I simply think Siva has the overall talent/IQ to be as good as them if he reaches his potential.

The fact that those other players were good enough to start and play major minutes immediately says a lot about the relative talent/readiness levels. Maye Siva gets to that level someday, but he has a long way to go.

What do you think happens in practice? If a player was good enough to get time on the court, they would display that in practice, and earn their time. I'm sorry, but I don't see Siva in the league beyond his rookie deal. The fantasy that if given minutes a player would all of a sudden become a stud is one I've never quite understood, especially when it comes to players so far down the depth chart. Larry Brown wasn't the coach last season, so it wasn't like he had no chance of seeing the court because of his youth. Granted our coaches were awful, and perhaps SVG will see something in him that Cheeks/Loyer did not, but I have to believe that if he was truly as good as you think, he would have at least cut into some of Bynum's playing time, and even that didn't happen.

I'm pretty sure Cheeks was quoted as saying that he gives his starting PG an exceptional longer leash than his backups. Given the circumstances, (playoffs or bust; our previous starter being traded; Siva being a late 2nd round draft pick and the 4th PG on the depth chart) how could Siva realistically prove his worth?

It's no coincidence that once Cheeks was canned, Siva got his opportunity, and he played well down the stretch. That's all I'm saying. I'm sure NBA players play well in practice all the time, that's why they're in the NBA. Is a coach just supposed to reward playing time to all 15 players??

remember the last time a season long bench player got playing time down the stretch and played well? We traded him, and Middleton looks pretty damn good now.
