You guys are making too big of a deal over GM. You can't have stars at every position. Stan is the star here. So its just about him getting the guy he wants to be his lackey and has good communication skills/relationships around the league. Stu is great at that stuff. I'm sure there will be assistant GMs to do more of the personnel evaluating stuff.

My guess is Stan will tell them what type of player he's looking for, the assistant GMs will do all the research to identify that player, then Stu will do all the wheeling and dealing of working the phones to get a deal done, and Stan will say yes or no on the final call.

When you think about the 2006 Heat team, few people probably even know that Pfund was their GM, because it was Rileys show and anyone could've been the GM and still won.

I like what Stu would bring to the team from a relationship standpoint though as he has friends all over the league, including the league offices.

Its funny to think he could be our GM though, because during March Madness he was on twitter saying Duke should've gotten some BS call from the refs when they didn't, and I tweeted him back and told him 'you might be able to fix NBA games with BS calls, but the NCAA doesn't work that way'. lol

Stu probably has so many connections because he's like the newbie fantasy sports player that everybody is overly nice to for the sole reason to butter up the guy for a lopsided trade.

Seriously. He's not even good at evaluating trades and finding value. He's going to get Masai'd so hard and SVG will go along with it since you can only say "No" too many times before saying yes.

I'll have to agree with QOO, the next GM will be more about administrative tasks than personnel decisions.

Siva arrived in town Tuesday night and met with assistant coaches Bob Beyer and Brendan Malone. He got in a workout with Beyer before heading to the car dealership for an event to promote this weekend’s Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix.

I guess this means it's unofficially official regarding Beyer and Malone. I guess SVG is going to wait until his staff is complete before making it officially official.

Another name to add to the coaching staff is Charles Klask -
Van Gundy is expected to add former Pistons assistant Charles Klask to the organization. He was an assistant under former coach Lawrence Frank. Klask worked in Orlando under Van Gundy.

Who is Charlie Klask?

College - Michigan State
Charles Klask begins his first season with the Pistons as an assistant coach where his responsibilities will include game-plan preparation, statistical analysis and scouting . He returns to his home state after spending the last 10 years with the Orlando Magic where he worked as a video coordinator, advance scout and the last three years as scouting information manager .

Before joining the Magic, Klask got his start in the NBA with the Pistons when he served as a video coordinating intern in the summer of 2001 and then video coordinator for the Detroit Shock of the WNBA . He worked the two previous years as a coaching assistant with the Grand Rapids Hoops of the CBA and also worked as an assistant coach for the Dodge City Legend of the USBL during the summer of 2000 .

A native of Livonia, MI, Klask attended Livonia Stevenson High School and is a graduate of Michigan State University.

Star managers do fill positions with lackeys. That is what bad managers with big egos do. Even if Stan has final say, he should be looking for guys with great skills both operationally and in talent recognition.

:-?

I'm really hoping it's not going to end up being Layden.

Unless SA has allowed Layden to be interviewed during their playoff run he's basically out given decision is supposed to be getting closer and otherwise Layden could have to wait another two weeks yet assuming SA makes the finals.

I think SVG wants to talk to Layden because he'd have experience working under the Coach with all the power system like in SA and "know his role" sorta deal.

Hearing Vogel return to IND makes hiring Stan when we did that much better. We really did get the best coach on the market.

I think the Malone hire is very underrated too. You can't do much better for your lead assistant than Chuck Daly's top guy for both bad boys championships, who helped devise the Jordan rules.

I'll take Bower out of that group of names. Jackson, Smith, and Layden are hot garbage. Bower may not be great but I consider him more competent than the others.

Asst coach hires are solid. Malone isn't going to be as involved as he was 25 years ago but he's a bright mind. Beyer is more of the lead assistant type and could be promotable to head coach for another team in the next few years. Klask is a thrice-time Piston now.

Scott Roth and John Loyer are still under contract -- not sure if either of them end of back on the bench or in scouting roles. I'd like to see Loyer back as an assistant.

What's up Grizz?... good to see you around these parts again... agree that Loyer deserves a spot on the bench... it helps to get feedback on existing players.
