Well Poop and Middleton led the Pistons in +/- last night with +11's.

Still would like to start Middleton and move Singler to a backup role for the rest of the season.

+/- is a useless stat in a short sample or in this case in a few minutes.

You'll have a hard time convincing me that a guy who scored 4 points in 20 minutes and missed all 3 of his 3 3points attempts and shot 40% from the floor and added little to nothing statistically, had even a passable game.

He was 2-5 overall and played good defense -- which also adds into a +/- score.

But overall, I agree that I do not put much stock into a player's +/-

Honestly having middleton and Singler split minutes at the SF spot is ideal. Let who ever's hott get the minutes. Singler has hit the rookie wall about 15 games ago, just doesn't quite have the same energy, shot etc. Defensively yesterday he was getting owned by Jarret JAck. Middleton has impressed me with his shot selection his IQ and his defense. Though they aren't always consistent, its still been presently surprising coming from a 2nd round pick

^^I could go for Middleton splitting minutes at the 3 or starting at the 2. Either way, I would like to see the kid play big minutes to get an idea of his value. From what I've mostly heard, he has great instincts as a scorer. His shot looks good. He can spot up. He can run around screens and get open for his shot. He can create his own shot off the dribble. He seems like Rip with better creativity off the dribble.

From what I've seen, he isn't very strong so gets manhandled. No worries, Arnie can get the kid powered up. He isn't very fast, so he may have trouble guarding his position. If he spends time learning defensive concepts and how to use angles and his length to his advantage he should be cool.

I've been impressed by Middleton. This kid can score from all over the court. He's got beautiful form and a quick effortless release on catch and shoots, can put the ball on the floor for pull up jumpers, and seems very good coming off picks. He competes on D.

IMO, this kid is at minimum a good rotation player in this league. When he comes back next fall, if we haven't acquired or drafted another high quality SF, he'll be in the mix for major rotation time next season - if not for the starting SF job.

I'm unclear who I think is the better player, Singler or Middleton - but I like them both. I also think JJ can play. If he can get his shot down, which I think is doable for him, he could get rotation minutes as a high energy stretch PF and at SF. All three are potential trade assets as the Pistons try to upgrade.

Singler has hit the rookie wall and is crapped out for the year. Middleton hasn't hardly played at all - I'd give him big minutes the last month - at least primary back-up minutes to Stuckey.

Middleton has more upside than Singler IMO.I think he can be a John Salmons type player

I think Salmons is the perfect comparison for Middleton.

The fact that Singler has gotten more minutes the worse he has played is some of the best evidence of Frank trying to tank this year. Singler literally cannot be worse, playing Middleton over him is a no-brainer. But Singler can't get out of starting 30 mpg if he tried. He might even be trying.

Game against Portland:

Singler played 40+ minutes -- 4 points on 2-10 shooting, 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks
Middleton played 12+ minutes - 0 points on 0-2 shooting, 3 rebounds, 0 assists, 2 steals, 0 blocks

Assistant coaches usually don't make major lineup shake ups in temporary interim positions, I think he is mostly sticking to Frank's general plan and Hill said he is going over these things with Frank by phone after games. It's unlikely independence. And if Hill also thinks Singler has earned these minutes I'd be completely shocked.
