I have never said that Greg was a good perimeter defender. This is about rebounding- you said that Greg stays in the paint to collect boards instead of trying on defense. He does not give up on the defensive play to collect boards- as is clearly evidenced by watching games.

This guy can't even remember his own a flawed argument. Now it's "Monroe is a bad perimeter defender". Dafuq is the guy talking about.

Averaging 17 & 9 in 30 mins off the bench over his last 7 games in Dec.

It's mind boggling how difficult it is for some of you to keep it even semi factual.

Check his last 10 games... Monroe's one redeeming value is his post scoring... he's not even doing this well...everything else is below average.

Monroe is statistically among the best bigs in the east. Regardless, your original statement was that he has "one good game every four games" which is ridiculously inaccurate.

What confuses me is that we literally have so many problems on this team yet a few of you (very few these days) will focus on the 1 or 2 good things we actually have & ride them non stop for their minor faults. I've never seen anything like it.

He gets a lot more touches when he's not playing with Smith/Jennings. Thats the difference. More touches for Greg means more opportunities to get to the line and get the opposing team into some foul trouble.

Wow, that's how that works?

Interesting was a poor word choice, I should have used suspecious, sorry. I want to see more Monroe/Jerebko/Butler/Meeks/Augustin. Ironically, we were all thinking about what it would be like doing an Orlando style offense with Drummond...

Just like Josh Smith, we've (Detroit/Dumars) put Monroe in a position to fail while being with the franchise. I hope Lucidity is right about his advertising how Monroe will go somewhere else and shine.

Count on it broadie. He's already semi shining here while playing with the goof troop imagine how great he will play with a competent franchise where he can be the #2 option that 99.9% of bigs are to a true #1 wing.

I gotta be honest, you seem to have a talent for the s**t. Question, why are you even debating Monroe’s perimeter defense? No one and I mean NO ONE is even debating or refuting this.

Show you got nothin'... not even worth the effort.
Ok, so I watched the first 79 of the vids that pop provided... of these approx. 13 were FT boards or not even rebounds ... out of the 65 left there were 28 that Monroe did not even acknowledge his responsibility and drifted towards the paint.
I did not count the very few times that he picked up a driver on the wedge (p&r cover help).
There were a few times where he was playing center vs a non threat from range (ie Perkins).
I would encourage anyone else that has no bias to look at the vids to get other opinions... with that said the argument that Monroe pads his rebounds by irresponsible defense still stands... and thanks for the providing the proof.

Says the genius who wrote "why waste the keystrokes" on whether Monroe would be here next year or not, IN A THREAD HE CREATED TO DISCUSS MONROE BEING HERE NEXT YEAR OR NOT. Doh!!!

Since you want to continue...
What do you think are our free agency options?
Any ideas on trades?
What is your take on the teams current salary structure?
Coaching strategies?

In otherwords offer something of value besides criticism... or you just sound like a whiny jackass.

It's a peevish lot here in Pistonland, even after two straight wins!

Not much to do other than what is being done. A trade? Sure, if it's a good one. Easier said than done.

How about we get to the origin of this whole back and forth. Your first post in this thread was "Monroe has one good game out of every four and he's a lock for our future".

You came in this thread as a whiny jackass after over 100 posts of discussion about the game. Hello Pot. It's as if anything even remotely complimentary in favor of Monroe strikes a cord with you and you have to remind people how bad he is. The first part of your post is factually incorrect. The second part wasn't even stated by anyone but you wanted to be a jackass anyway and debate the point, but now you're requesting serious discussion? FFS:

My offseason would start right now and my first move would be to get rid of that abortion of a basketball player that wears #6. We all know Malone just got canned so maybe that can reopen the (alleged) talks with Sacramento. I would take Derrick Williams and Landry/Thompson and go cry tears of joy if it happens.

DJ Augustin and Jerebko would seem like hot commodities in the trade market for contenders. I'm thinking Houston for example would be decent fits for both, probably moreso Jerebko for his shooting next to Dwight.
The million dollar Monroe question needs to be answered. After you chemo Josh Smith away, let Greg know ain't no S&T's happening so if he's not planning to sign, he might as well agree to a trade to a contender now because those Bird Rights are nuked either way.

Offseason, everyone keeps commenting on this Mudiay kid but I've never seen him play. I'm still not sure whether to go for him in the draft or one of the wings. If he's Russell Westbrook, I want him in the draft. If he's John Wall, I go for Stanley Johnson (this is all assuming these guys are on the same level talentwise). If Johnson becomes prime Caron Butler that'll be perfect.

My top FA target would be Reggie Jackson. Been saying I want him for over a year and he's really starting to break out. I got plenty more but my little one is begging for attention. How about you share yours?

Uh Show I took acceptation to someone's comment... which you do on a daily basis... there is no comparison to you're persistent negative M.O.
I was pleasantly surprised to see you finally add your own ideas (not so hard is it?)
I will not pick apart your plan... as this is a step in the right direction.

Since you asked for me to share mine... this is my initial thoughts...
I would take the first expiring available for Smith & DJ.
DJ's minutes would go to Dinwiddie to give him every chance to show what he's made of to see if we already have a backup for next year.
Jennings can stay until after the free agency period in case we can't land a better replacement... then we see what we can get for his expiring deal.
For free Agents we go right down the list of priorities until one sticks
1)Tobias Harris 10-11 Mil
2) Dragic 10-11 Mil
3) Jimmy Butler 10-11 Mil
4)Amir & Draymond Green 6-7 Mil
5)Aaron Brooks (possible backup) 6 Mil

Monroe walks as expected.

Draft:
Karl-Anthony Towns

I like your ideas but you would have to overpay for any of those first three to come here for Harris or Jimmy butler we probably would have to offer them Klay Thompson type deals (16-17mil) to play for us.

Unfortunately you may be right (especially with the BRI from the new TV deal)... indeed it's gonna be a tough sell.

So I was right, you have a problem with anything complimentary towards Monroe. Because the post that you took exception to was talking about Monroe beasting in the post AT THAT MOMENT for THAT GAME. As far as your plan, I hope you're prepared for the possible even of going 0-fer as you're lowballing those free agents and what they might command.

Those are the popular names that's for sure, but you would go 0/4 all too low... Brooks for 6M. Yeah. He'd laugh his way to the bank. All these point guards Thibs has been coming up with for backups latey are going to need to put him at the top of their Christmas card list. Make sure he gets one. It is unbelievable. They just overperform for him.
like how Augustin looks now in Detroit compared to what he did in Chicago.

TOWNS tho. A lot of people like him a bunch. Idk yet I haven't made up myour mind yet. Haven't seen enough. Could be a good pair with Drummond!

Return to Detroit Pistons
