Trade Monroe & Singler to Cavs for Waiters & future 1st round pick

Post#1 » by Han Solo » Wed Dec 24, 2014 6:21 pm

They just lost their center. Monroe would likely accept a trade to the Cavs. He'd fit well playing next to Kevin Love.

We get Waiters (still on rookie deal) to see if it works with us. We also get a future 1st.. Not sure if they have their pick this year but if they do, this year's 1st.

This is a trade that would help both teams.. A realistic trade as well.. Thoughts?

I don't want any part of Waiters here.

Falk has already stated that Monroe isn't going to waive his bird rights and accept a trade this season.

That said, I still wouldn't do it because I definitely don't want Waiters anywhere near the Pistons. The guy has only been in the league a few years and already has a bad locker room reputation (Deng called him out multiple times last year), and is a ball hogging chucker (we literally just got rid of one).

It's like you were shot in the foot, it healed and you didn't learn and you want to shoot it again, Han.

The Cavs can't trade their first this year, but they can trade the Memphis first they have owed to them.
Regardless, that pick is going to suck...

I don't know what to think about Waiters. It's easy not to like him, he's a high usg combo guard.

We're going to lose Monroe anyway. Waiters is on a rookie deal.. Not a 14 mil a year contract. We get another 1st (even if it's late).. The rest of the year is an experiment anyway.

Cleveland would trade a late 1st and Waiters for a legit shot at a championship this year.. Even if Monroe is just a rental for them this year. A championship is worth a late 1st and Waiters.

What a defensive juggernaut that pair would make! Might make 'Bron crazy, though.

We have at least a hint of potential and depth at the two with KCP and Meeks. Not a big Waiters fan, either. I'd be more inclined to make a move for a young three or maybe a point. Also, the Cavs need a defensive center alongside Love.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Right after I posted this I read that the Cavs were looking at a 3 team trade with Grizzlies and the Celtics.. Looks like Waiters to Boston, Koufos to Clevland, Sullinger to Memphis is the rumor (or something close to).

You beat me to it, but yes, aren't we pretty much stocked with 2s at the moment? KCP hasn't been without his shortcomings, but overall is a better prospect in my opinion than Waiters. Waiters has no conscience as a chucker and isn't a great teammate by all appearances. A real, honest to goodness 3 is what this team needs most of all as Butler is a "once was" and Singler is a "never will."

I'd do it if we could get a 3rd team involved and squeeze out another draft pick or prospect for waiters, but as Heisenberg stated, moose has come out and said he "plans to honor his 1 year commitment to stan", which is the PC way of saying that he plans on cashing out in the offseason. My pipe dream has us working out a moose for Reggie Jackson swap though...

No trades with the Cavs unless we are getting back Love, Kyrie or Lebron and we aren't giving up Drummond just out of principle. Screw them.

Cleveland wont do that, they wont be able to re-sign Monroe.

And Greg isnt going to accept any move at all, he wont waive his BR.

He will stay until you S&T him.
