Replacing another idiot with more shooting. Stupid can't win in this league anymore and spacing is crucial. Since we are under the cap, we could flip Tolliver to a contender perhaps along with a guy like Singler and maybe bring a pick back.

SVG not being shy about making moves, I like it. I honestly think that if this coach-president 'experiment' works out then you'll see more teams start to do it. honestly, if an owner feels they have the right person in place (someone that is a great coach and has good team ops sense) I think it is better if the coach has that kind of authority. I know coaches like pop still have a ton of say in the roster moves they make without having the job title but this could be trend-setting. it could, of course, blow up in our face too. i'm hoping for the former.

tolliver isn't a great player but he can play (has averaged ~10-20 minutes per game in his career) and he can shoot. I can't say I've watched much of him so i'm not sure about his defense but his shooting alone is a valued asset on this team. I don't expect this to be a long-term move or anything, but if SVG can get this team to actually play closer to his system then it's valuable experience for the team going forward.

at the end of the day we traded a player who was never realistically going to play for someone who can be a decent role player, and there's little financial burden after this year. good move in my eye, even if it's not a huge one.

We got something for nothing. It's as simple as that. Tolliver will never be mistaken for a great player, but he's a solid plug-n-play guy. That's more than I ever expected to get for Tony Mitchell. Nice move.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Uhh, no. Tony Mitchell isn't fetching a starting caliber NBA player. He's started 53 games in his career  .
The good news is that we can start with Drummond/Monroe and at any point we can pull one for either Jerebko or Tolliver, and then we can bring in the other to also be paired with a stretch 4. Plus, there is versatility with both guys apparently being able to play some SF. It's a good move for us.

i'd expect to see tolliver play more with drummond in a 1-in, 4-out style, as SVG continues to mold and hone andre's post game. jerebko will still get plenty of time playing next to moose as well. most teams go 4 deep in the frontcourt, so i like this move. we have a legitimate stretch-4 for the time being, so what's not to like?

I don't know too much about Tolliver, but I'm seeing this trade a little differently than most. I guess we could have just dumped Mitchell too, but we got an average NBA player who is likely a better locker room and practice player than Mitchell. It should just help our environment be less toxic. Butler and Augustine are examples of this as well. So SVG isn't making any long term commitments, and seems to be purging those that cannot understand what he is teaching.

As though we don't already start non-NBA caliber starters lol

No, Tolliver isn't a 3. He's a stretch 4. He's mobile for a 4, but he's not going to stay with most starting caliber 3's. He's not just a tall, skinny 3 that gets played at the 4. He's listed at 10 lbs less than Monroe.

Tolliver is a pretty big dude. From what I've seen, he gets by on defense (he can check most 4's without getting abused badly) and can nail the open 3.

Mitchell is complete crap, so this is a solid move, even if it won't move the needle much. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see us play somewhat better ball, almost get into contention for a playoff spot, and then dump our role players with value (Tolliver, Butler in particular, and maybe Singler and Augustine... I think JJ stays) to drop a few spots before the end of the year. That's what I'd do if I were SVG, but Gores might prefer a playoff spot if we can sneak into one.

The East is THAT BAD. We're definitely in contention for a spot even if we only play .500 ball from here on out. 6-23 + 26-27 is 32-50, which is a .390 winning percentage. The current 8th spot in the East has a .464 winning percentage, but that's Brooklyn, and I think they're going to trade out of that spot. 9th is Boston at .370.

It's called cap management people

We had a dude making next to nothing that no one wanted...now we have a dude making next to nothing (guaranteed portion is $400k next season) that we might be able to flip if a team needs some extea cap space.

Guys like Butler & Tollivee have some value this off-season - not great value but certainly more than Mitchell.

SVG is slowly removing the Joe Dumara stench! That's a good thing!

With our expirings and partially guaranteed deals we might have $32 mil in cap space ($22 mil with Monroe's cap hold). That should afford SVG the space he needs to make moves we need

Toliver's acquisition is truly underrated. While he's not taking us over any hill, he's another shooter to surround our bigs. Our roster looks so different and its exciting because moose and dre will finally get to see what SVG's image is for our team. I'll tell you what, SVG doesn't make a lot of splashes, but he quietly and strategically has put us in place to make moves. These remaining games is going to be Dre's audition for FA's to come and play with him

I forgot that this is the guy that mocked Lebron James "the decision' when Lebron picked Miami and Anthony picked Minnesota. Didn't know his contract situation for next year (very partial guarantee). I like this move more and more every day for this small of a move.
