Say SVG had benched Smith and only played him 20 minutes a game from opening night. We were 5-23 with him starting; how much better would we have been? 10-18? That would be doubling our win total and still leave us with a pretty lousy record. More importantly, would that have been enough to inspire SVG, Bowers and Gores to bite the bullet and cut Smith, which has
CLEARLY led to the best result and brightest future for our team?
Sometimes you need to take the all-or-nothing approach and push with all your chips. SVG did, doubled-up, and is now in a much better position at the table.
Saying that he should have came off the bench instead of started is not an argument in favor of him, quite obviously...
Okay fancy, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt — please explain, exactly, your position on Josh Smith. To me, your previous posts seem to say to me that we would have had a better record than 5-23 previous to cutting him had we played him as our 6th man. I'm suggesting that we wouldn't have cut him unless our record had been significantly better than 5-23, which would have meant that we were a better team with him than without him. Seeing as we're 9-2 since cutting him, how much better do you feel we would have been with Smith coming off our bench? Are you suggesting that even an extra five wins THIS SEASON are more important than the long-term increase in both team chemistry and cap space we achieved by cutting him? If so, you're welcome to your opinion, but again, you won't find many on this board who agree with you.
By waiving Josh Smith, SVG made it clear that starting him was no longer an option. Therefore, unless I am misunderstanding, you are saying that he should have come off the bench instead of CUTTING him, which is OBVIOUSLY an argument in favor of him. If you think the Pistons would be better RIGHT NOW with Josh Smith on their bench instead of on the Rockets, by all means, make that argument; just be ready to get buried on these boards when you do.
Or else you're a troll looking for attention. And if so, congratulations, you got mine.
