Prefer Caron In Starting Lineup

Post#1 » by FPower2 » Sun Mar 1, 2015 10:18 pm

Pretty much just what the title states. I hated Singler being a starter, and was happy when he was traded. I am more confident in the team getting off to a good start with Butler, and I believe they were 2-0 with him in that role after the trade.

I don't know how many minutes Caron's capable of playing per game, but the team has gotten off to terrible starts in both of Tayshaun's starts. The energy level has been bad these last few games, and Prince made it pretty clear that he was not excited to be back in Detroit. Maybe that's just a coincidence, but the eyeball test tells me that he doesn't fit with the starting unit. Which is bad not just for the losses, but because we have a limited amount of games to evaluate RJackson. He's had a horrible few games, but I have a hard time taking anything meaningful away from his performance because the entire team has been so out of sync. It's not like everyone else was playing well, and his terrible play cost them the games. (although, he did likely blow the Knicks game down the stretch...but it never should have been that close in the first place)

Anyway, I vote Caron.

I am right there with you. The energy on offense seems to be crushed with Prince starting and he honestly looks lost out there.

YES!!!

Tay consistently tries to post up, and our floor spacing is josh smith esq, he takes the ball down the court in the break and almost 9/10 times leads to nothing or a TO. His defending is overrated but is masked by his length. He doesn't rebound well, he doesn't bring energy. I am 100% on board with Caron

I'm not defending Reggie Jackson's play this weekend, 'cuz let's face it, it was indefensible. That said, until this thread, no one had mentioned that we're not just trying to incorporate a new PG post-trade-deadline, but a new SF as well. And as others have already posted, Tay isn't exactly fitting in with the starting lineup; anytime the term "Josh Smith-esqe" gets used to describe a Piston, you know we're in trouble (shout out, Blkbrd!).

So depending upon how many minutes Caron can handle, what about playing more "small ball" and running Meeks and KCP on the wings together? And by "run," I mean RUN; have jackson push the pace every chance he gets, simplify everything and play to to everyone's strengths and athleticism as the team gels?

Yeah I think we should be starting Caron over Prince for sure. Prince just has such a slow release on his shot unlike Caron where he can just fire away as soon as he touches it.

And to back up what Motown said about his release, Prince seemingly shoots on his way down from a jump shot, that's a big no no. That's Blake Griffin level of no.

Anyways, I mentioned this on the Knicks game thread on Friday, Caron needs to start since he moves decently off ball and is a good spot up shooter.

Tayshaun was trash when he last played for us

He stopped the flow of the game, took stupid shots, and just was horrendous to watch

So why the fcuk did we bring him back again? Why is he starting??

I don't like it either. He doesn't play the game we need at three and doesn't have much left. He's also not a character guy or positive vet influence.

Bring him back for the next 2004 team reunion, not as a player now.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Neither Butler nor Tay are starting quality 3's. We don't have any good options at this point, but I'd be inclined to give Martin a chance and then use the vets off the bench and to close. Martin is obviously a limited player, but he can get up and down the court and will keep the ball moving.

i agree, he needs to be on a contender that has rookies in waiting, not a playoff contender who's rookies are playing

I agree with starting Butler, but I've said that since training camp. He should be our Michael Curry; start each half but play 16-20 mpg. Maybe a few more if he's playing well and his body can handle it.

I've also been saying since the trade that we should play more small ball with Meeks 1st off the bench. He's struggled this year, but no real harm in seeing how he does with extended minutes. Give him that 28-32 mpg security with KCP sliding to the 3 and playing more up-tempo.

Hell yeah, I'd take Caron starting over Tayshaun. And that's not to say that Tayshaun was a worthless pickup but he shouldn't start.

We just need a better shooter at SF to start games.
