Barnes hasn't looked that good and he's going to command a huge salary. At the same time, Bogut's health is a concern and Festus, although also young big man has had injury concerns iirc.
I wouldn't do that trade if I'm Detroit, it doesn't make sense for us. I'd rather have Stanley Johnson on a rookie deal for 3 more years then an expiring Barnes. My big board for the #8 pick is: Johnson/Mario/Kaminsky. I'd be happy with any of 3, I assume all 3 will be available.
I'm glad the TWOLVES got the #1pick, I'd take Towns if I was them. Towns/Payne/Wiggins/Lavine/Rubio, thats exciting. I kind of felt bad for the Knicks dropping but whatever, #4 isn't bad. They could take Justise there if they wanted. Sign a big defensive center and move Anthony up to PF with Winslow at SF to play small-ball. It looks appealing to me! Then after Melo declines you hope Justise is 'the guy.'
Wouldn't the Wolves be looking at Towns for a combo of Towns and Dieng. Payne off the bench with Pekovic (assuming he's under contract).
Also to all wondering about Barnes.. He's due for an extension when David Lee's contract expires so I would anticipate them matching offers for him anyway. One of my mates is a Dubs fan and he's very confident they match offers for him. The only exception I can see them not is something like a near max as they'd have too much money into 3 players (Green, Klay, Barnes), with Curry needing an extension soon after too!
Yeah, I forgot about Deng.
I think the Lee contract expiring is suppose to offset Green though. Maybe with the cap rising they would be able to fill that with Barnes though, so yeah, maybe it could work out. I'm not entirely sure now. Anyway, the part about injury concerns makes sense to me with their frontcourt and I don't think Barnes is that good (He'll get over paid). I think I'd take WCS over him in their situaton, wouldn't you?
Yeah the expiring cap plus Lee's $15M coming off the books, has come at the perfect time for them.
I'm not too worried by his injury history personally.. I like his play though. I don't know that I'd want to pay him max/near max but that's another story.
Personally through the draft I'd prefer to target Winslow, Oubre, Johnson. KAT is my dream, but that won't happen.
And then I'd prefer to sign a PF (ideally Monroe or Harris).
