Is ATL the best spot for Monroe?

Post#1 » by vic » Mon Jun 1, 2015 10:08 pm

A lot of people think that Greg Monroe is going to end up in New York. But from recent news it looks like ATL may be the best fit for him... It actually may be the best fit for the Pistons too, since it will allow the Pistons to get an asset for him.

Possibilities for Monroe:

1. Atlanta- Monroe & 2016 1st for millsap plus Portis ( they would draft him first)

Pros: immediate contender fresh off the Eastern conference finals
Good fit for them, they run a five out offense, and Munro would make it four out and give them more rebounding and post scoring for the playoffs, which they needed
Even Atl fans love it - http://atlallday.com/2015/06/01/would-greg-monroe-be-a-good-fit-in-atlantas-front-court/
- by giving up the better, younger, and bigger player, SVG could demand a 1st round draft pick also. He would get it too, because why else would he make an Eastern conference team better for nothing?
Cons:
- capspace would require a deal

2. Boston
Pros: Room for him
Cons:
- no defensive complement shot blocker
- rebuild

3. Pelicans
pros: Perfect fit for them
cons:
- no cap room, would have to sign & trade for a draft pick
- western conf
– Davis might leave
- not enough shooters

4. Portland
Pros: Could be a good fit if Lamarcus decided to leave
Cons:
- Western Conference
- dont know if Aldridge leaves
- okay fit but not the best like Davis

5. NYK
Pros:
Play for Phil, requires no sign and trade, he could just sign out right
Cons:
- rebuilding team, would be a long rebuild with no defense Carmelo as your best player and a second-tier Rookie

6. LA -
-Would not be a fit with randle or Okafor, I doubt  that he goes there
-Another long rebuild with injured Kobe

If you were Monroe would you rather go to lose with LA & NYK with ball hogs ... Struggle with Boston... Struggle in the West till Anthony Davis leaves you... Try to fill Lamarcus Aldridge shoes.

Or fit into a perfect spot on an ATL team that just made the ECF but you still fit like a glove?

This would be great for Atlanta. He gives their offense a paint weapon and more balance, and pairs well with Horford.
It's best for Monroe, it gives him a place to win that fits his IQ and complements his abilities. It's great for the Pistons because they could sign & trade for Millsap, who would be a veteran pF, plus a draft pick (hopefully Bobby Portis or Kevon Looney).

Why do the Pistons get a pick? Because they have the leverage. They are giving up the younger, the bigger, and the better player. Anytime you do that you get a 1st round pick. If ATL doesnt want to give it up then millsap & Monroe can walk on their own. Millsap can get signed individually and Monroe can go lose with the Knicks or Celtics.

Do you think this could happen? Or will Atlanta have the space to sign Monroe on their own?
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

What if 3 teams offer him the same amount

Atlanta can sign Monroe outright, there is literally no reason for them to do a sign and trade.

Monroe would be best off in New York, getting paid, if the Knicks draft WCS to cover for him defensively. Him and Carmelo would be a nice duo in the Triangle offense, and Monroe's rebounding can cover up Stein's weakness on the defensive glass. If Phil lands decent players to fill in the gaps they could be a playoff team.

I would expect a few teams to offer him exactly the same amount of money.

Monroe will go to the playoff caliber team that offers him the most money and Detroit will lose an asset for nothing.

I voted Celtics. They seem to always love skilled bigs and don't put a premium on frontcourt athleticism.

Pelicans would be the best fit, but I'm not sure they will go all in on a sign and trade. Also, I'm not sure Monroe wants to be a clear cut #2 big. I don't think he minds being a #2 option overall, but I think he views himself as a #1 post option.

There's been talk for a while now about Horford not being happy at C...

They've got the money to throw at Monroe if they let Millsap go

I can see why people would be interested in a double S&T but would Millsap wanna come here? Would SVG want him at his age? Does Monroe wanna go there?

Only takes one player to say no, or one organization to say no and there's no double S&T.

Dallas could be an interesting situation for Monroe. They could be looking at younger free agents since Dirk is nearly done.

Spurs could also be in play for Monroe if LMA doesn't go there

Gonna be an interesting off-season for a lot of teams

New Orleans should make him priority #1 this off season. I know I would if I was them, him and AD would be one hell of a duo
