Cheap ownership, Butler might really want out of there, we throw in Stanley, you just never know.

Re: Plan B... 2016 Free Agents
Some ideas I have had today while at work
S&T Monroe to Raptors for Derozan Raptors might like a Lowry/Williams/Ross/Monroe/JV lineup and it they dont lose Derozan for nothing. I would then go with a smaller lineup for DET of Jackson(resigned)/KCP/Derozan/Ilasoya/Drummond with Jennings backing up PG/SG maybe trade Meeks/Martin for Lee as well.
If Jackson gets a early deal in FA and we have to let him go I say sign Rondo for a 1 year deal. Now I know how things went down with him in Dallas but him on a one year deal to help his image/get a big payday would be good because he would play hard plus we could allow Jennings to come back slowly compared to rushing back.
Im not sold on the FA SF's this year so I say take a one year flyer on Pierce or maybe a 1 and 1 on Granger for a low risk possibly high reward. Granger is 32 and I think would sign for a reasonable price. Then focus on making a splash next year.

Re: Plan B... 2016 Free Agents
^Welcome to the board.
I do like the optimism, but I think we're well past the point where we can expect that we can get anything for Monroe. He will be walking for nothing.
Why? There are tons of teams (including the Raptors, actually) who have enough cap space to sign him outright. The only way I can see us maybe getting a pittance from some team (second rounder, something like that) is if he was particularly adamant about joining a team with mutual interest that didn't have cap space.
And even then we have zero leverage because there are tons of teams that can sign him for nothing.
I'm also not sure what you mean by Jackson getting an early deal and us having to let him go. There is no way in the world we'd let him go on the off chance that we might be able to sign another free agent. If Jackson pulls a dick move and signs an early deal, we'd sigh, take the cap hit, and resign him, because there's every chance you let him walk then strike out in free agency.
I don't think that will happen, but if it did, it would not play out the way you think.
I have no interest in older guys like Pierce or especially Granger who don't really fit with the youth movement we've got going.

Re: Plan B... 2016 Free Agents
Ok let me explain why I came up with these
the S&T of Monroe for Derozan is Raptors missing out and panicking and with the trade of Derozan for Monroe they save money and are able to bring back Lou Will maybe more with some of the money saved.
What Im saying about Jackson is if he gets offered max from someone and we are in say a holding pattern with Harris or something and that we go get Rondo for a year if somehow Jackson doesnt work out I know we will be bringing him back but this is Plan B if that happens
Pierce is strictly a stopgap so we dont overexpose Johnson too soon. I just found out Granger picked up his option so he is out. Pierce on a favorable 1 year deal and after the season we have the full youth movement with Jackson/KCP/Johnson/young PF/Drummond

Even if a Greg S&T happened for Derozan he isn't very good. Can't shoot, bad defensively, shoots a boatload of long 2's only thing he really is good at is getting to the FT line.

1) I don't see why the Raptors would panic and give up a starter for a guy they can sign outright. They'd still have cap space left over if they sign Greg and give up no-one. No reason whatsoever for them to do a deal like that. Derozen is also the worst fit at sg for us possible.
2) There is no way we'd move forward on a move and risk Jackson. Jackson is more valuable than any player we have a realistic chance at in free agency.
3) Paul Pierce isn't interested in being a stop-gap for the Pistons. If he wants to go to a non-contending team he'll go back home to Boston.

I just am not sold on Harris/Middelton/Carroll/Green(Danny not Draymond) with the contracts being mentioned. I would rather stopgap with a SF and have Jackson back then overspend on one of those guys. If we could get a Leonard/Butler/Draymond Green though I would be fine

What is your apprehension about paying a big contract?
Everyone will be overpaying this year, and its because the salary cap is going to go up a silly amount in a couple of years. 16 mill committed this year will be like 12 mill a few years down the road.
The team that's not willing to "overpay" this offseason is the team that isn't going to improve via free agency. Its how its gonna happen this year. Pistons are in no position to be as picky as you seem to want to be.
Also, your wording makes me think that you think its a choice between Jackson and paying one of those other guys? Cause its not....

Yeah, 16 million this offseason is going to be the 12 million of next offseason. In two years it will be more like 9-10 million. It's easier to look at it as more about percentages of the cap than actual dollar amounts.

Yeah everyone is getting overpaid this off season so it doesn't really matter how much we pay imo as long as we get someone who will really improve this team.

My wording is wrong on it Im saying I rather resign Jackson and bring in a stopgap SF then overpay for someone's skills that wont match the contract
Carroll/Middelton seems to be a one year wonder in a contract year
Danny Green seems to be a system guy to me. When you have TD/KL/Manu/TP all Green had to do is shoot 3's yes he is a good 3 point shooter but he isnt worth the contract even at 9/10 mil in a few years comparison for that.
Harris is a decent player on a bad team I think we have the chance to be a really good team coming up and I just dont think he lives up to the max contract
I would rather get a guy like Bellinelli on a reasonable deal then give any of those guys max or close to max
