i dont think he was terrible at trades. He was actually really great until he turned Chauncey trade into garbage by signing ben and charlie, but that trade and before, he was a trade God. . It was everything after Davidson died that went bad. The team lost an identity and joe was forced to make moves and get super fast results. You cant blame him. he should always be recognized as a top GM when there was stability here.

All of that will be forgotten unfortunately.

How many people have actually watched the Draft Press Conference with Stan and Gores?

My guess is not many! I know this to be true because SVG said that we weren't choosing between Winslow and SJ!

While talking about Johnson's game and ability to play now he also mentioned upside and mentality...

SVG said (I'll paraphrase) that he couldn't LOVE Johnson' s approach to the game any better than he does!

That's pretty freaking important and people don't mention it! Here we've got a GM/Ciach picking kids - not based on workouts at all (its like 1% for SVG) and he finds this kid...with all these Piston connections (college coach, video guy, Dre, RJ)...and he's gonna be there at #8....and he REALLY wants to be a Piston....and he fills a position of need...

Geez, what more do you want?

Now obviously Stan has too much class to sit there at the presser and trash Winslow, a guy that might be available to him later in free agency or via trade but he did mention mentality an awful lot when talking about Johnson.

So while we're all comparing the games of Winslow and Johnson it needs to be noted that:

1 - If Johnson was gone we weren't picking Winslow regardless!

2 - Stan LOVES Johnson's approach to the game!

That's huge!

And if you have any faith in SVG at all after last season then why doesn't that extend to this pick?

So we are supposed to feel better that Stan wasn't even considering a guy many believed would go top 5, that Boston offered 6 draft picks to get and now gets to develop in the Miami incubator?

No, you're supposed to believe that after the previous 12 months and all those transactions that SVG didn't get stupid for a day!

Not gonna beat a dead horse here but SVG & his staff made the pick they made and trashing the pick for the next 2 years isn't a good way to spend time IMO.

I'm under no illusion that SVG or any GM is perfect but until time proves that SJ was the wrong choice for us I'm going defend him and the selection

Stan made the right pick, there are no guarantees, but stanimal fit our team much better and is the more rounded player,so you cant fault our coach for picking the kid that fits this team best.Ive been pretty silient after the draft because the same arguements are had over and over and it gets alittle old,but Johnson has drive, mentality, work ethic, and confidence in spades and that should make everyone feel very ,very optimistic.

There will be alot of crow being eaten around here.

Based on his first summer league game against scrubs.

1) looked really good and definitely like the best player out there.

2) his handles are a lot better than I thought

3) defensively he needs to work on technique, multiple times he was exposed but I think it was legs and understanding the defense scheme

4) he's 19 and bigger than some grown men, no problems finishing. Also he was more like 8-12 if you count all the shots he made after the foul was called.

5) looked real good in the pick and roll and didn't realize he's a agitator. I read glen rice jr hit him in the face?

5)
