And at that price I might have flipped.... KCP, Steve Blake, and Martin for him. I don't care about current roster construction that's CHEAP talent. As a team that can't draw talent in FA we can't pass up on talent that cheap.

1: Lawson / Jennings / Dinwiddie
2: Jackson / Meeks / Dinwiddie / Hilliard
3: Morris / Stanley / Hilliard

Sucks having 2 pure 1's in Lawson and Jennings, AND Jackson getting pushed over, AND the defensive downgrade but let the minutes sort themselves out. Competition. We don't get enough opportunities at talent for guys like Jackson, expirings like Jennings, etc, to be entitled to roles. If you're the better player earn it..... BUT I'm bringing in this talent. I'm higher on Hilliard than most and between Hilliard, Meeks, and Stanley I think KCP is effectively replaced and then some.

Can you give me a explanation on why you are so "high" on Hilliard? Cause he doesn't look better than KCP, KCP was a better college player as well.

I posted a thread about it a bit below. The KCP point was made because I think Meeks could replace his shooting, Stanley his defensive energy and versatility, and Hilliard his offensive upside. It's all a moot point though because no Lawson for us. :(

When I watch Hilliard I just see a really smooth player mentally, athletically, he's skilled, he has NBA size, and his shooting stroke is A1. The only weakness I see is that he doesn't have superstar athleticism. Even without that it's hard to picture him not doing well if given quality opportunities because he's so smooth. Even in SL I felt good as a fan when the ball was in his hands lol

EDIT: 1,000th post!! Hilliard is destined to be great because he's a part of history! :D

Yeah this isn't from a butt-hurt fan.

Lawson, we should have never been linked to.. He's too good to be a backup. Reggie reminds me of Westbrook. Not as explosive but plays similar. We have Jennings too. Lawson wouldn't have worked without at least Jennings and Dinwiddie leaving.

I was ambivalent on getting him anyway, so I'm good. A first rounder (even protected) carries too much value for us.

I agree completely. I figured the Lakers or Rockets would be willing to offer a protected first. If it was just expiring contracts from us, I could understand it in a way... the talent upgrade would have made the risk worth taking. A lowish risk-insane reward deal.
If we traded a lotto protected first, we would either end up the 8 seed or in the lotto and then the following year Lawson would be in jail and we would lose our pick  ... just how I suspect that would have played out.

That Harden/Lawson backcourt should be epic on offense, but the defensive side of things might be scary.... in a bad way .

I dunno. They both are best with the ball in their hands. Maybe Houston feels this takes some pressure off Harden and gives them someone to generate offense when he's off the floor.

The West could be an epic battle this year.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Morey just absolutely killed it. He almost literally gave up no assets to gain a positive asset (since Lawson can only bring himself up from here and he's healthy physically). The players HOU gave up aren't worth anything and the pick is even laughable too.

The fact that he still nabbed a 2nd rounder is so hilarious though. He really likes his gem in the rough.

I really wish they would unconference the playoffs. The 5 best teams (Spurs, Warriors, Thunder, Rockets, Clippers) may all be in the West and have to climb over top of each other while Cleveland gets a free pass to the Finals and has to win 1 series to win the title.

Yeah, the West is still a bloodbath with a lot of them being contenders, while the East literally probably only have like 2 maybe 3 contenders with Cavs being the obvious favorite. Lebron has had it easy in the East for a while now.

I could see the request for a future first round pick being a deal breaker for SVG. Not sure how far talks with Detroit even got, though.

This was a steal for Houston. They needed a pg upgrade and got one for peanuts.

It's good to know stan is out there trying to scavenge talent, but this one was just a bad fit. We just maxed out a young pg and lawson was never going to be content as a backup.
