This is all I care about

We can not start the season without an extension that would be disastrous

If we're gonna give him the max we can when he becomes a RFA does it really matter?

I'm not too informed about the pistons, just wanted to see what was going on.

Are you guys at all worried about Drummond not signing an extension and taking the QO so that he can sign a new contract when the cap booms? I know there was tension with monroe and the front office, are things with drummond better?

From all we've heard Dre and the team are just crossing the t's and dotting the i's on the new contract. It's worth noting if they wait to extend him next summer, they would have an extra $10 mil or more of cap space to operate with, but given the entire league stands to have plenty of cap space and cap space is overrated with us until we win that's likely not going to hold things up.

Personally, I'm nervous until he signs on the dotted line. Everyone is saying all the right things, but I just want him locked up.

The right move is waiting until next summer to sign Dre, but if he makes it clear that he'll be upset if he doesn't get it now, you give it to him now.

Bad Boys II? Jackson wore a Bad Boys cap while posing for photos with Van Gundy. What's the significance of the Bad Boys? "It was an era," Jackson said. "It's a mentality. It never can be duplicated but it's something that I guess is kind of a foundation here and hopefully we can be mentioned one day amongst the '89 season and those guys, (Dennis) Rodman and Isiah (Thomas) and Joe Dumars, (Bill) Laimbeer and all them. Hopefully we can bring that same style here, physical and all business. We're here to play. We're here to compete. We don't necessarily have to be your friends on the court. We don't care how you feel about us. We're here to get a win by any means. I grew up a Bulls fans but they definitely elevated (Michael) Jordan's game by being who they were and hopefully we can take on their persona."

Motor City man: Jackson was born in Italy and attended high school in Colorado Springs but he moved frequently as a child because his father was in the military. He thinks he's finally found a home in Detroit. "Blue collar," Jackson said. "Everybody knows Detroit is a city that fights hard. I feel like growing up being a military kid ... I had to fight for everything and battle for everything. That's how this city is. I definitely embrace it and I hope they embrace me the same way they did when I first came. I'm just going to leave everything I have each night on the floor and hopefully it will result in a lot of wins. We want to be the last ones holding the Larry O'Brien Trophy."

Why is that?

Waiting another yr would mean paying him 25% more per yr instead of spending that on help for him. Locking up your young players before the huge cap jumps should be a priority for all teams before you end up looking like the T Wolves with KG.

He is saying all the right things that Piston fans want to hear. He got handed the keys to a team, and if he does take this team, and start winning, and end up winning it all, he will be cherished just as much as isiah, and Billups.

I hope he does, because he has had a tough road to hoe so far, with the massive amount of doubters, it would make it really sweet.

Good guy, and besides everything, he really does want to be here, and he really does want to win.

You can't ask more, from your on floor leader, and general.

Make this team win mr. Jackson, and the city will love you.

You're absolutely incorrect. It doesn't work like that. Extension won't kick until next season regardless. It will cost the same whether we sign him now or next offseason.

Already mentioned, but yeah, this isn't how it works. His salary for this season is set in stone, the last year of his 4 year rookie deal that has set small raises after each year and began at a point set by his draft position.

His next contract will be a true max second contract, meaning it's set as a percentage of the cap with a set raise percentage after each season (if I was 100% sure of the exact numbers, I'd include them -- clearly I'm not). We don't even know what the exact cap will be for next year, as it'll be determined after the revenue numbers from this year are official, but signing tomorrow or a year from tomorrow won't change the actual amount of the contract.
