The Detroit Free Press is reporting he has been signed to a partially guaranteed 2 year deal.

It was not entirely clear in the article other than to say he is partially guaranteed.

Here was the Freep analysis:

Free Press analysis: The Pistons have 18 players under contract, three over the league limit. With an overabundance of wing players, Thomas faces a long road to making the 15-man roster, but his contract likely will allow him to play in Grand Rapids next season, where he will be available in case a trade leaves the Pistons a body short.

this is a bit strange. Why sign him to a 2 year deal if he's no guarantee to make the roster?

He had a couple of nice summer league games. Maybe SVG is planning on playing him. we would have to waive 3 guaranteed guys though.

Probably to have him for a second season IF he does make this years team. Just some protection for us I guess - and also good contract for Adonis in that the second year probably at league minimum would be certain incentive for the Pistons to keep him and develop him as the 15th man rather than seeing it as a waste to roster him and put time into develop him and then he leaves as a free agent come the off-season.

I still don't think he makes the team though. Only one of Granger, Bullock, Martin or Thomas for the 15th spot and all but Thomas have guaranteed deals. If Jennings proves healthy though I guess we could move Blake to carry only three pg's which would open up another roster spot for contention.

I'd rather keep Bullock if it comes down to it. Cut (trade if possible) Granger and Martin and not bother signing Thomas

Can't we just cut Granger, Bullock and Martin?

I think Gores trust SVG. If SVG thinks they should be the ones cut, Gores will probably pay the $

I know but I don't see any reason to keep them, makes more sense to go out and hand pick a couple guys that may excel in the system instead of guys we obtained as fillers in a trade.

Granger hasn't even been introduced yet right?

I think we'll know whether to keep him or not when he gets physically involved as a player in camp. If he's damaged goods, we have to release him.

I'm thinking that maybe someone else was going to make him an offer so we made an offer just to protect our asset.

I haven't seen the details of the deal yet but I imagine it's a fairly routine training camp deal where year one is partially guaranteed and year two is a team option.

I like the signing. The Pistons have had a full season to evaluate Adonis Thomas as he thrived under their system in the D-League and further proved his worth in summer league. Now he gets a credible (instead of a token) shot at making the team. This seems like one of those calculated steps to change the perception of the franchise.

Granger and Martin are cuts, and Bullock seems to be, unless Stan has a trade in the vault.

There has to be a trade on the horizon. Granger/Martin to some team needing to fill their 15-man roster for a 2nd rounder....

This way they have time until the start of the season to evaluate who is the better wing player to keep. And Thomas can't sign with another team. Robert Covington still hurts in my opinion, thats one that got away - 2.2 3PM per game, 37% from deep for Philly.
