He looked like how i expected SJ to look at the summer league. He definitely shows he has a high bball iq, nice shooting stroke, and play making ability. I really think we have a player that can develop into a solid nba player. More than likely trade him at some point, but still great pick up in the 2nd round.

It's not exactly unheard of for second round picks getting 3-year deals. That's what Dinwiddie got (with the last year being unguaranteed) and Detroit also gave Middleton and Singler 3-year deals when they signed.

This also puts an end to any speculation about Hilliard being stashed in Europe.

The partial and unguaranteed clauses make more sense. I personally don't see him sticking in the league.

You're probably right, as 2nd rounders usually don't make it in the league. Further, there were no extenuating circumstances that pushed him into the 2nd round. He plays a controlled game, and his rep is he can shoot. Hope he can surprise us.

in the second round primarily the types of players you find are those that are young but extremely raw, those with big red flags (character issues, legal issues, etc.) or junior/senior players that aren't perceived to have much upside.

Hilliard falls into the third category, and he'll likely be in the D league all year as a rookie with a chance to slowly work his way up.

obviously the better he becomes the better for us but he'll likely be at the end of a ten-man rotation in a couple years - not that there's anything wrong with that. as a coach i imagine it would be great to have a depth guy that is reliable (even if less talented) waiting on the end of the bench.

Hilliard is similar to SJ in length and height. Not as big as SJ, but still a respectable 220 lbs. If he plays decent defense and shoots well he could find a role. Got to root for any Piston rookie.

going to be really hard, he's not a better shooter than meeks at this point, and defensively Bullock has the edge. He's probably a better playmaker, but i doubt he could do it consistently in his rookie year

Yes, I don't disagree with that, although I don't think I know enough about Bullock to really evaluate him. Given the way the draft fell he was a reasonable guy at which to take a look.

Bullock is in the same boat as Morris. Where he's a young prospect that's flashed potential but at the very least is servicable role player. SVG specifically targeted Bullock as well as morris. Shooting and defense consistently is what we'll need out of Bullock
