03-04 Pistons to make debut on NBA2K16

Post#1 » by MotownMadness » Sat Aug 22, 2015 2:15 am

After much anticipation from Piston fans, the NBA 2K videogame franchise fans, basketball fans, and cross-breeds of all three, the 2003-04 Detroit Pistons will be a playable squad in NBA 2K16. The announcement was first announced on NBA 2K16’s Twitter account Thursday afternoon at 3 PM.

The new installment from the highly-rated franchise has added loads of new features for the game set to release on September 29 (September 25 for those who preorder the game). Included in these updated features in the game is the addition of 12 new classic-teams, highlighting the most popular and successful teams from the past decade, adding to 2K’s already extensive collection of teams from the past.

Multiple other teams have been announced so far along with the Pistons, including the 1999-00 Portland Trailblazers, 1999-00 Toronto Raptors, 2000-01 Los Angeles Lakers, 2002-03 Dallas Mavericks, 2007-08 Boston Celtics, and the 2007-08 Houston Rockets.

As two new teams have been announced every week for the past month, NBA 2K fans have been clamoring to hear the last Piston championship team to be revived once again. From the message boards, the Pistons may be the most popular team from the past yet. Not only was the team popular among fans of the real NBA, but also in the virtual world, as Ben Wallace graced the NBA 2K5 cover.

Like the real life version of the Pistons, the version on on NBA 2K4 and NBA 2K5 was imposing of defense, led by Big Ben’s ability to emphatically block shots. The team as a whole had one of the highest defense ratings in the league, and the offensive ratings were not too shabby either. Remember, the Pistons hold the record for the fewest allowed points in a post-shot clock era playoff game (68 points in Game Three of the 2004 Finals against the Lakers), and that defense was just as tough when one faced them as virtual athletes.

I played with the Piston teams from a decade ago on the old Playstation 2, and was ecstatic to control my favorite team, and dominate the Lakers all over again. And now that my favorite team from my childhood is back, I can endlessly take this team to go against the NBA’s powers of today on a Playstation 4 just over 10 years later.

Ratings have not been announced for any of the incoming teams, as fans will have to wait to see how their favorite classic teams stack up when the general public can first play in late September.

The remaining classic teams yet to be announced will be revealed on the following two Thursdays at 3 PM EST.
