Especially like a Joe Johnson type contract. Dre would bolt.

I'm fine with just picking up stragglers to bolster the bench. Look to the D-League or waived players.

This doesn't make sense, Joe Johnson has an expiring contract.

Yeah, but we were rumored to be interested in Johnson last year when he wasn't expiring.

I took the post to mean "hopefully we won't be looking to trade into that type of situation we were rumored to be looking at last season".

Seeing as we were apparently willing to put the breaks on a Dre extension for the sake of cap space, I think its a safe assumption that we won't be looking to take on any large overpaid contracts during the season, as that would create similar issues only worse.

Dre is getting the max regardless so taking on a long term contract isn't gonna effect that.

They held off on the extension to have the flexibility to add to the core - if something comes up during the season you gotta take it. A bird in the hand and all that

It won't effect the extension, but my point was that we seem very committed to having flexibility going into the offseason. So committed, in fact, that we didn't extend Dre.

We won't sacrifice that flexibility to take on an overpaid contract if we wouldn't even do it to secure Dre. And bad contracts are all that will be available in a salary dump type deal.
