Drumond is a weak defender because of aptitude and focus. He is learning and has progressed well. That being said, he has the tools to be a great defender. As demonstrated in his steals against bigs and perimeter players. He shows flashes of real potential from time to time, but it just has not be consistent. Then there are times when he gets posted and honestly looks like he's not sure what he should be doing. Or times when he breaks away from his man on a gamble that fails. As for his improvement, he has stopped jumping at every fake, he instead plays conservative and puts his hands up. He has learned to close down the paint much better which he demonstrated at the start of the season when our defense was one of the best in the league.
Reggie is a terrible defender and I can't figure out why. It looks like he's just running next to his guy instead of actually trying to stop him. If I had to guess, I'd say he doesn't take it seriously when guys score on him. He just figures he'll bust his dude up on the other end. That crap has to stop. A guy with his wingspan, athleticism, quickness, and experience should be setting a better example on D.
Tolliver is pure grit. He's the type of intangibles player every great team has in its lineup. The guy dives on the floor. Goes after balls going out of bounds. He meets guys at the rim for blocks. He bodies bigs as much as he can with mixed results. He comes off the bench with energy and just plays hard.
Mook gets out there and manhandles guys with brute strength. I didn't like him before, but now having watched him with the Stones I love the kid. He's got heart...there's no quit in him.
KCP is the best we've got and one day Stanimal will contend for that title. KCP gets after it and aside for a few games this season, he normally keeps his man in check, makes his man inefficient, or shuts his man down. His quickness, length, and athleticism creates all sorts of headaches. Stanimal is a brute strength defender like Mook. Unfortunately, unlike Mook he's a rookie and is subject to rookie calls when he manhandles grown-butt men. Part of his problem is the lack of respect he gets from the refs, the other part is learning the scouting report and knowing his man. Take will come with time.
