Put yourself in his shoes
Just signed a max deal, no need to worry about injury
Would you skip out on the Olympics for ANY reason?
If there was a family issue or something bigger than the guy shouldnt have been at Drew League hooping it up
He was invited to play against Cousins and DeAndre Jordan and many other great players in practice and get coached by Coach K, why the fcuk wouldnt he go?
I dont have anything against the guy but Drummond is the face of our team by default. He isnt the heart and soul of our team. Maybe that's Reggie or Mook or eventually one day Stanley but as of right now that isnt Andre. He isnt interested in improving his game in the offseason and playing with and against the best while learning from one of the best coaches in basketball. Even if he didnt really focus and try hard he still would improve just by practicing with those players and playing in international games.
The easy Gold is the cherry on top, what could possibly make him skip out on that? There arent many Gold medal winners in NBA history, why pass up a chance at going?
SVG even once said if he went to the Olympics that Gores would send his own personal coach to make sure Drummond gets his own drills and important work outs completed in addition to practicing with Team USA.
Im not the only one confused several others have commented on the GB and other sites as to why he would turn that down only to get dominated in the Drew League lol
He had every right to turn down the Olympics for any reason he chose, even "I just didn't feel like it" or "I skipped the Olympics just to piss off that one guy on the Pistons board on RealGM who thinks I should do everything HE wants me to do."
LeBron didn't play. Does that mean his leadership sucks?
Did you just compare LeBron not going to the Olympics to Drummond not going to the Olympics?
LeBron just finished his sixth straight trip to the Finals by winning a Championship. I think he deserved his rest
Whatever like I said Drummond can do what he wants but lets not pretend like he is actively trying to get better as a player and leader (that's what would have been accomplished if he went to Rio), but instead he wanted to stay home and take it easy, which hey ive been there i dont blame him for that
On the other hand, with all the hotties in Brazil and all those all-star NBA players im sure there was tons of fun to be had in Rio as well.
