Pistons are in no position to trade any of their good shooters. They should be trading the guys who can't shoot to make room to play more of the guys who can. Can't just rely on 1-2. You need a stable of em, and then odds are at least 1-2 will be on every night. With KCP/SJ, odds are neither are on every night. And when you run a system that's basically 'live or die by the 3', you want the guys who give you the best odds of succeeding there, and the more of em you have, the better the odds.

Yeah, I'm with Todd on this one, we shouldn't be counting our chickens before they hatch. I think we need to let this play out a little bit longer and see who can distinguish himself from the other two before we go dumping guys. We still have the D-League and RJ won't be gone that long.

We don't have the d-league, we'll be maxed out at 15 players even after we cut one of Brown or McCallum. So in order to add anybody from the d-League we'd have to cut a player to make roster room. Also we'd have to sign them for the ROS as 10-day contracts are not permitted until January.

I think you missed my point about the D-League, or maybe I wasn't clear. I think we should use the D-League for guys like Hiliard and Gbenji and keep them on the 15 man roster until KCP's contract works itself out.

Pistons are in no position to play 20 games with only two rostered point guards. No real need to carry four shooting guards (five if you count Johnson).

So we trade a guy who could give us great shooting for the next 4+ yrs for a 20 game backup PG who will never play again after?

I agree we need an answer there, but trading longterm assets for temporary fixes just doesn't add up in our favor to me.

I'd rather just give Gbinije a chance there. Or do a PG-by-committee and have guys take turns initiating offense on the 2nd unit.

I don't think the Pistons re-sign both Bullock and KCP. And even if they can't extend KCP now, I don't think they extend Bullock at $7Mish a year if they intend on matching any offer for KCP.

I also wouldn't characterize Bullock as a great shooter.

So it a rent-a-player PG for first 20 games, versus a expiring DNP-CD who will walk at the end of the season.

Given the money they'll likely command, I think it's more likely Bullock gets resigned. If KCP doesn't improve, it's unlikely they're going to match any offer for him when they have cheaper options who could be better. Even if he does improve, they might just go the cheaper route if others can provide the same for less.

So if you want to trade a SG for a PG, wouldn't KCP make more sense?

A) He'd return a better player.
B) It would create more minutes for Gbinije/Bullock/Hilliard to develop
C) Which also would improve our shooting by replacing a bad shooter with good ones.

Bullock was 42% from 3 last year. Small sample but he was also 39% over 3 yrs in college, and is 37% over his last 2 yrs in the NBA, plus was 50% last preseason. If he's not a great shooter already, he's definitely shown potential to be one. Stan often calls him our best shooter.

fwiw bball ref projects him to shoot 38% on 4.5 attempts per 36 this year.

Their 3P projections for KCP & SJ are 33% & 32% respectively.
