SVG Considering Lineup Changes

Post#1 » by mercury » Sat Nov 19, 2016 6:36 pm

Looks like a possible mini shakeup... my best guess is Mook coming off the bench to improve rebounding & shooting.
Other changes?

lol... Baynes isn't going to start for Andre. Might as well just forget about that man.

It'd be an improvement through hustle, IQ, effort and not being a whiney baby.

The only thing I can think of for the starting lineup is replacing Mook or Tobias with Jon Leuer. Most likely Mook. I also think we need to keep playing Bullock or Hillard to get some better shooting off the bench.

He needs to put Leuer in the starting lineup so we can quit getting beat up on the glass. This is probably just talk from SVG though when he gets all heated up after a loss.

Leuer for Mook

that should be a permanent change...
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

I'd like to see Beno start.

How's Leuer been doing? I haven't caught many Pistons' games this year.

You could make an argument for him playing better than any other forward on the roster and not look like a complete idiot.

looks like the lineup change is bullock being in the 9-man rotation over stanley johnson.

Not liking our backcourt this year...I'm hoping once Reggie comes back it'll not only boost our PG spot but his presence will elevate KCP's game.

Didnt watch a game lately, but going by boxscores it seems Leuers FG% has been trending downwards since SvG told him to take more shots. Does this trend worry you, or is it a mirage?

The trend worries me. He seems to get and take good shots on the perimeter but often misses badly. Its not usually just a hair long or short, it'll barely hit the rim. He doesn't look like a shooter to me.

I think Jon isnt a natural shooter but he's certainly proven to be a valuable addition.

Shots aren't gonna fall every night but the size, length and intangibles will be

Pharaoh, that is a good way to put it, but wasn't he supposed to be a stretch 4? False advertising so far.

Calling him a Stretch 4 is a bit of a fallacy. He was signed to defend those guys. Not really be one although he does have the range

The league has been moving away from the straight up Ryan Anderson 3 point bomber types for a while now. Those guys are too limited now.

Teams are looking for bigs that can post, stretch it out but also be a passer in the halfcourt. It's not a direct result of Draymond Green or Bogut or Tim Duncan either.

It's a natural progression due to the way teams defend the PnR. A lot of teams instruct their bigs to sag off into the paint to prevent the drive...which leaves the opposing big open a lot of the time.

If the guy can't shoot or make a good pass to a guy coming off a baseline screen or a curl at the elbow then you ran that PnR for nothing.

Jon's ability to do that - or read the play on D - is why he was signed.

SVG at Sloan once said there's PnRs you run to score and then there's PnRs you run to get to something else...I don't think many fans break it down to that level and really have a fundamental flaw in how they view the game

On every possession, particularly PnRs what you're watching (the actual PnR) isn't necessarily the first option to score. We could run a PnR to set up Harris on the opposite wing for example

Long story short: running a PnR anywhere on the floor - with Jon on the perimeter - doesn't always mean he's set up to shoot from deep. That might be a bail out option but each PnR has numerous scoring option occuring off the PnR that most people just don't see

SVG should consider rotating at least 10 players. Boston gave minutes to 11 guys on saturday, obtained massive contribution from Jerebko (who would be dnpcd in our ridicolous 9 player rotation) and benched Zeller who was sucking.

Give a fu***** chance to our bench player to get in the zone.
