Otherwise, poor free throw shooting and rebounding let us down.
Also, Jackson once again -13 in his 34 minutes of play and Ish +7 in his 14 minutes. Should seem obvious to SVG what needs to be done.
There is a world of difference in RJ taking and unguarded 3 and Josh Smith taking an unguarded 3. RJ has been shooting well and was a blistering 45% from 3 in January and was 3 for 4 in the game. A hot 3 point shooter had an open look and he took it. It was bad clock/game management, but it really is a shot that RJ can take and make. It's not like when teams were just daring Smith to toss up another brick.
You're cherry picking stats there. A more relevant number to bring up is his 3-point % this month which is a measly 32%.
But going beyond the numbers you're right, it was bad clock/game management which is why the shot was reminiscent of a bone-headed player like Josh Smith. There was still another 12 seconds remaining to get a better look or defer to a teammate who was shooting better at that point (KCP or Morris) but Reggie chose to be a hero. Even though he had played pretty well up until that point I don't think it's wrong to say this was the turning point of the game that led to the loss.
And for the record, I'm not a Reggie hater. I was vocal leading up to the trade deadline in saying we should keep him at least until the off-season and I'm still hopeful he can return to his form from last season and be a key piece for us long-term.

You don't have average players ,which Reggie is, taking an unforced 24 ft shot with 12 seconds on the shot clock. That's not how you consistently win games. All that does is mire you in mediocrity. If svg defends that shot in that situation he is not the coach to take this young team to the next level.
This!
That shot is defined as a turnover. Chauncey Billups defined that type of shot as a turnover. It's not about the shot, it's about the timing, the situation, the type/caliber of team you are playing. Any championship level coach or point guard defines that shot as a turnover. You don't take that shot up by 1 against a tough smart team. It shows no iq even if it goes in. If it goes in you got lucky. Luck doesn't win consistently. Luck is up and down. That's why this is an up and down team. In that situation you make the defense exert itself and tire itself out for 10 more seconds then you get a bucket preferably with a free throw to get your rest before you play defense. You don't chuck without passing. Even Golden state and San Antonio would make 5 passes before launching a 3 in that situation. To make the defense work. That's part of the game for winning teams. Dumb players don't understand that part of the game. I guess if you don't work hard on defense you don't understand the value of making the other team actually work hard on defense either. You just stand still and Chuck. No iq just like Josh Smith.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

Steph curry is making a hall of fame carrier out of shots like that. It's the new normal in the NBA.

Steph not that dumb he works the mess out of the defense if it gets set, he runs off screens, very hard worker, hi iq, guarantee warriors would pass the ball around or screen in that situation. No excuse for that 5 point turnover

Steph takes shots a step past half court. getting within a couple feet of the 3 point line is a close shot for him. And he frequently takes LOOOONG 3's in close games. When you shoot over 40% from 3 though, nobody cares.
