We are mediocre. Really mediocre. Period.

Homerism on this board is getting ridicolous

And our offense will improve by leaps and bounds. LEAPS and BOUNDS. Don't forget we have Ish Smith starting at point guard at the moment, he's a decent back up but the kid is just nowhere near starting level.

Charlotte, Atlanta, Boston, Toronto, Cleveland and Bulls are way better than us. we are in contention for 7th and 8th place with Indiana, NYK, maybe Orlando. being excited as some of our users are for a team whose ceiling is 7th place in eastern conference is pure homerism.

Is that our ceiling? How do you know that? Can you give me the Lotto numbers?

SVG has preached continuity since Day One. I don't see a major transaction this season...but if we don't look pretty next season then I expect a big move.

Until then it's development for all involved as far as I'm concerned

RJ: third tier point guard in a pg stacked league, very good though
KCP: average starting sg
Mook: barely a starter in this league
Harris: very good player, not a pure PF
Drummond: all star who averages double-doubles but gives up in half of our games

bench:

Ish Smith: backup pg out of control
Udrih: nice veteran and glue guy
Bullock: barely an nba player
Hilliard: barely an nba player
Johnson: maybe a bust, maybe a role player, not a star in the making
Gbinije: maybe a tax code
Ellenson: developing intriguing big man
Leuer: nice role player and good backup pf
Baynes: nice role player and good backup center
Boban: intriguing backup center not playing at all right now

this is not paving a way to heaven.

Who said SVG is paving a (stair)way to heaven?

I've had this discussion with others so why not you:

You assume that a championship in the next 2 years is the goal.

It's possible, even likely that your assumption is wrong.

It's possible that making the playoffs every year for the next 5 years is the goal.

A winning team, in downtown Detroit...sounds like the community asset SVG & Gores have spoken about repeatedly

It's very rare a team goes from a lottery team to a title contender in the span of a year or two. The only time that happens is if you can pick up a hall of fame player or two, like Boston did getting Garnett and Allen. Or, obviously, when LeBron decided to reward Cleveland with his return.

Outside of that, you have to work your way up. The 2004 team needed a couple years to breakthrough to the finals, and they were a 50 win team at that point.

This team will need to make those same incremental improvements, and hope that Drummond or KCP "pop" and go from talented young player to game dominating talent. I used to include Johnson in there, but I think that horse is out of the race. Or, SVG can swing a monster deal if a superstar lands on the market. Anthony Davis is going to leave the Pelicans, Paul George (Reggie's BFF) might eventually want a better situation than Indiana, and Demarcus Cousins is definitely leaving Sacramento sooner rather than later. Put the right talent around those guys, and you can win a title. SVG has to be ready to chase one of those guys, even if it's at the expense of Andre Drummond.

Han Solo wrote:This team just isn't very good. No other way to put it. They lack shooting, very inconsistent on D, and surprisingly look like they aren't coached very well. I agree with the post about taking a risk. We need to do something, because Reggie will not be the savior I think some of you are hoping for. These guys look like ****. Van Gundy really **** up drafting Stanley Johnson too. If that pick panned out, we'd be in a good position. Hard to defend a team when you can't even finish watching most of their games because of how horrendous they are. It's gross basketball. It's not just the players either. Van Gundy has been terrible.

I stand by everything I said here, except the bit on Stanley Johnson. I think he's improving and playing hard. This thread is from November. You could see our troubles then. This whole season has been a mess.

I stand by everything I posted in this thread

Even stated that once RJ was back I'd make a decision on the bigger picture.

I've made the comment that we need a different type of PG because having a me-first guy marginalizes KCP, Harris, Mook and shunts them out of their comfort zones on offense

And IMO Han you still overreacted 13 games into the season. You were proven right eventually but at the time it was too small a sample size
