Is Reggie Jackson shut down for the season? It sure seems so:
“It really wasn’t fair to him, we were out there putting pressure on him,” Van Gundy said. “He’s seeing things he should be able to do and he just can’t do. He’s not feeling pain, but he just can’t make the plays he wants to make. Van Gundy said Jackson has been against the idea, but after consulting with Pistons owner Tom Gores Sunday night, the call was made.
“He wanted to keep going,” Van Gundy said. “He needs some rest. We don’t know how long it will be. He needs some rest and to be able to try to get energy back and get back at full strength. With only seven games remaining, Van Gundy didn’t want to speculate if it was for the rest of the season. He said he will likely sit tonight against the Miami Heat at the Palace.
“The thing that we look forward to and he looks forward to is getting a fresh start in the off-season and being able to go through the preparation for a season like he did last year, and not only get right physically, but really get his confidence back to be able to attack and make the plays he has,” Van Gundy said.
http://www.freep.com/story/sports/nba/pistons/2017/03/27/detroit-pistons-new-york-knicks/99714676/My guess is he's out for the year unless we miraculously beat the Heat and Bucks and end up in play for a playoff spot. Sure, if we made such a turnaround it would show that we played better without Reggie, but the aftermath of benching Reggie with the season on the line would be tough to swallow (locker room implications, trade value further plummeting). That's not going to happen, though. Everyone on the team realizes the season is shot so we're just going to keep losing and Reggie is probably done for the year (and maybe as a Piston).
