And then we'll dump the ball in to a guy that is 6 inches taller than everyone else and score 2 points every possession.
If team refuse to counter by playing a legit center, we have the perfect guy to make them pay.
That goes the other way too though. If the other team is running their stretch four "center" out around the perimeter Boban is going to be torched. Can't really just keep him inside either because that leaves one player free out to the edge. Not saying I dislike Marjanovic or don't think he has a place in the league because that's obviously not the case, but playing to matchups is important. It's all about being able to throw out multiple looks and the center position is pretty much the pivotal position in determining what kind of lineup you're throwing out on the floor. Hence having multiple options/styles to play there, not just one set backup center.
And for what it's worth even if that is the case it's not like Van Gundy will actually stress that in his rotations. He's far more reactive than proactive when it comes to matchups.

Yeah that's the thing about mismatches lol... it can go both ways. There's obviously pros and cons to a small ball lineup, the question is do you try and out- small ball them, or do you take advantage of other mismatches that creates.

Bobo can't guard a small ball stretch 5 though.
He should play against the true 5s - big guys that don't spread the floor.
Otherwise he's getting torched

Re: Is our offseason over?
we've obviously built our team in the 4-out 1-in mold, but our biggest problem thus far has been we have yet to fully commit to that type of lineup.
We take more 3's than most teams, but we also shoot a lower percentage than most teams as well.
I'm very intrigued with this version of our team this year, as we should make a higher percentage of 3's across the board of our lineup with the possible exception of replacing Morris with SJ. Factor in the extra ball movement, improved defense, and more defined roles this year, and I personally believe that this team will surprise a lot of people.

Re: Is our offseason over?
We solved one of the four positions of need this off-season. we still need a point guard that is two way and a plus defender, still need a starting caliber Of and a defensive big that can block shots and hit free-throw. I see us making the playoffs and hopefully filling another one of those holes next summer, hopefully trading up in the draft and going after a young Of with range and upside.

Re: Is our offseason over?
As more teams move away from big 4s (they become small 5s) Harris becomes less of a defensive liability at the 4 spot...
IF we're focused on not paying the tax (seems we are):
AB will walk after the season as we're sold on Kennard...
Which means the "future" is:
Dre - Tobias - SJ - Luke - RJ
With Ish, Galloway, Henry, Jon and our 2018 rookie off the bench.
Hardly inspiring...so let's enjoy this season and hope the future isn't so bleak for a while

Re: Is our offseason over?
this but i do like having more high character vets around because this team is still young mentally. a guy beno would be nice to have around. but im ready to see this team play. my hopes are low, but i still expect results if we're healthy.Pharaoh wrote:Anyone that believes Bobo is gonna play 15-20 minutes every night is setting themselves up for disappointment IMO
He simply can't play that many minutes every night. He's too big & slow for the league
Some nights he'll play those 15-20 minutes and some nights he wont play at all...which will have some on here blowing up deluxe about what a waste of cap space Bobo is/was.
We can 8 mile every situation we're gonna see this season and the general reaction of the forum:
RJ is hobbled = trade him for whatever we can, SVG was stupid to sign him to big money, he's a poor excuse for a PG/Leader
Dre doesn't show obvious improvement or pouts = SVG shouldn't have signed him to the max, dump him while we can, he only plays to make friends and doesn't care
Kennard doesn't get minutes = wasted pick again, SVG buries kids, he'll never develop on the bench
One could go on and on with what if scenarios but right now I'm pretty happy with the squad we've got considering my off-season goals:
Goal #1: Get a true pro/leader on this team.
Accomplished via AB
Goal #2: Get guys that can shoot and/or defend and/or create off the bounce.
Accomplished via AB, Galloway, Kennard, Tolliver
I view our off-season as:
AB replaces Mook as leader and is a much better fit on both ends
Tolliver replaces Baynes as a locker room presence and a guy that plays better than most people think
Galloway replaces KCP and while he's not better than KCP he still brings 3 & D
Kennard replaces Beno as the guy we want to see get more minutes
RJ - Ish - Galloway
AB - Kennard
SJ - Harris - Bullock
Jon - Tolliver - Henry
Dre - Bobo - Moreland
No need to add another vet IMO
I'd prefer we go for high upside dudes with the 2 way deals though

Hard to say, SVG seems to land his trades when they fall into his laps and he gets them cheap. Who knows would could happen but I will say I feel like he doesn't like adding any pieces once training camp begins.

I think we'll make another move - at least I hope we make another move. I don't expect it to be anything big, but we've got a logjam at the 4 after bringing tolliver back.
