Reggie is like an energy destroyer. If I had the power, Reggie Jackson would be the first out the door. I don't think he has much value, though.

I have a favorite replacement (47% FG shooting PG). It's doable, but probably comes at the expense of immediate wins, and would most likely require a young prospect to be shipped out.

It's my opinion that this team, judging by the promotional advertisements, are shifting leadership from Reggie & Andre to Tobias and Avery. There is no way in hades a narcissist like Reggie is ever going to volunteer to relinquish any status for the sake of the team. I'm fully expecting the spots to stay on this leopard. Dribbling the ball to death while selfishly looking for his shot. Ship his a** out.

I think this team can put up a winning season, but if not, they can at least dangle AB at the deadline to a contender, and hopefully get a decent return. He's our biggest trade asset. The only way RJ increases his value is if he proves to be healthy and we start winning. In that case, we might as well just keep him, as most teams already have a solid starting PG, and the bad teams won't give up an asset for him.

We're in a tough spot, unfortunately. I'm fully on board with parting ways with SVG in the offseason if we fail to make the playoffs. The franchise is clearly focused on the playoffs, and I'm fine with that direction. But if they don't achieve that goal, I don't see the point in keeping SVG around for another season.

We need RJ to show he's healthy and that we can win......................................i think its going to be a brutal season for Piston fans.

I think in order for us to win, we need to trade RJ away to a team that fits his style of play.

I’ll end this here. You posed the hypothetical asking for thoughts. Next time just answer your own question.

I am just pointing out the flaw in your logic

Expiring Contracts don't hold more value , or it could if the right teams comes a long. Point is to generalize that is a error as it varies.

I think SVG plan and system is good. The equality of talent is building in house competiveness, the rookie contract players have a vet who is their low end potential in front of them to outplay. But both dre and Jackson are not actually the most competitive guys, in dre case just physically gifted, but he is making free throws now, if he can then learn to play defense you know I will be hard to say he's not improving at his craft. I think the system is good, at this point in time LBJ owns the east, I think are talent level is improved, we make the playoffs this yr, then again next yr and the franchise does rebuild, the fans come back, he's on a 5 yr plan to overhaul the franchise, if the fans start coming back for a .500 young team, and we build on that, than we are in the drivers seat to relavence. I just want to see fans in the seats.

Continuing on my idea...

Recap = the time to reset our cap and put ourselves into a "Horford" like scenario is NOW.

Jon and a 2nd or 2 to Sacramento for Koufus

RJ & 2018 first to Phoenix for Bledsoe

I don't think those moves seriously hurt our playoff hopes the next 2 seasons so SVG can continue down his current path

The difference is that after next season this is our cap situation IF we let AB walk for nothing:

[Note: all salaries are there or thereabouts cause it's hard to get accurate figures]

Drummond - 19/20 salary is $27,093,019

Tobias - Bird Rights on the books...used to be 150% so $22,200,000

Bledsoe - Bird Rights on the books so $22,500,000

Galloway - $7,333,333

Josh Smith! - $5,331,729
Henry - $2,856,804
Jedi - $3,827,160
Moreland - $1,913,267

SJ is a RFA that off-season and if memory serves his rights count as 300% so I'll just make it $10 mil

Assuming Josh Smith counts as a "player" that's 9 guys so there's gotta be a few minimum wage guys added for cap purposes

Add 3 dudes at $1 mil each

Projected cap for that season is $109 mil

By my figures we're at $108 & change!

BUT

If you renounce Tobias, Bledsoe & SJ you've now got $50 mil of cap space

And that's franchise altering money, especially with Dre, Luke & Henry as the only "established" players on the roster.

So that's what I would do if I was SVG:

Include picks to swap RJ & Jon for contracts that expire after next season while keeping the "make the playoffs" idea front of mind...

Then that puts you in a position where you can swing for the fences OR keep the status quo depending on how things shake out with the roster

You're not sacrificing anything really, except AB this coming off-season but it does put you in the driver's seat to make actual long lasting change sooner rather than later
