LMAO - I don't know if he does any of that!

I'm asking if anyone has read or heard what our guys are like off the floor?

I worked with a coach once who had a dude on his team that was **** terrible! A guard that couldn't handle the ball against pressure AT ALL and every team we played KNEW it...eventually the kid got benched (obviously)

For the next 2 years this kid rode the pine, rarely playing, especially in any games that mattered.

So me wanting to develop as a coach asked the obvious question:

Why do you keep this kid on the team when EVERYONE knows he's ****?

There's 4 guys we could bring in tomorrow that could take his spot, that could actually develop given the exposure to the coaching staff, team structure and environment etc

My coach said...and I'll paraphrase:

"Cause when those superstars go to parties he's the kid that makes sure they don't **** everything up!"

See, we had some dudes that were actually good (for their ages, at the time) & they thought they were top shelf - they were little celebrities around the area and a couple of them loved that.

They'd go out drinking, taking pills, willing to **** anything that moved...

And this weak ass PG was part of their circle, their buddy from high school (he used to be top **** himself at 16)....but he was the smart one and never got into drunken brawls or had issues with drugs.

So where I saw no value to this kid my coach saw A LOT of value

There's a lot of stuff that goes in to making a team a team, and while we like to think professionals are actually professionals you never know who's doing what or who's doing who off the floor

Look at Tony Parker & Brent Barry - bit of a weird situation with their now ex-wives, right? Who woulda known!

So there COULD be value in Bobo - we just don't know about it...

Nah I'm referring to nothing "basketball" related here.

I'm legitimately wondering who (if anyone) on our roster does all those little things that makes a group of individuals come together as a real team.

For all I know it's RJ! Or Bullock!

I love this dude. I feel like he legit just loves basketball and is just a nice guy. I think a guy like that is perfect for Dre. He’ll lead by example and not throw a hissy fit

I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but I have good instincts and can tell some things from interviews, expressions, watching games, and second hand news:

1) Stanley Johnson is a leader. If he can earn a spot, he'll be the voice and heart of our future.
2) Andre Drummond is a child just learning to grow up. He'll get better about things in his late 20's, but he's never leading anything.
3) Avery Bradley is a fighter. He plays hard 24/7 and forces others to follow his lead or look bad. Very valuable.
4) Everyone loves Boban. He's a super nice guy. I'm sad he still isn't getting a chance to play, but there may be good reasons.
5) Tolliver is a rare guy that can lead from the bench. That's why he's here. We just couldn't afford what Sacto paid.
6) Tobias is of very high character, but not particularly vocal with his teammates. He isn't a leader and doesn't need one.
7) Reggie is too emotional to lead a team consistently. He gets so up and down during games it's frustrating to watch.
8) Ish plays with high energy but is emotionally controlled. Good leader for a bench guy, much like Tolliver.

Don't know enough about Kennard, Bullock, Moreland, Ellenson or Leuer to say much.

Yeah they're all personality based on what we see...

But I've read stories about the Spurs where Tim Duncan or Manu would take players out to dinner during the season and dudes organising get togethers during home stands and **** like that.

Maybe it's a SAS thing but I've heard of other players and organisations where it's happened

Kinda like the Wade/Lebron BFF **** but about our guys. I'm always curious to know how they interact, simply because what we see for 2 hours a game is such a small percentage of the time they spend together

Pretty sure Tobias is the "funny guy" on the team.

Celtics fan coming in peace, just saw the video of him and it makes me sad once again that Boston had to trade him for capspace purposes. Please treat him good in Detroit, he is genuinely a great human being and the perfect lockerroom guy.
The 2024 NBA Champions Boston Celtics depth chart:

Guards: Holiday, White, Pritchard
Wings: Tatum, Brown, Hauser
Bigs: Porzingis, Horford, Kornet
