Tim Hardaway Jr for a Pu-pu platter?

Post#1 » by Kilo » Fri Nov 2, 2018 2:36 pm

Could we get THJ for next to nothing if we offered mostly expirings and willing to take on his remaining three years at $17M per?

Knicks want to clear salary for max free agents. We're trying to win now and have Reggie Jackson on books through next season, would have Hardaway and Dre on books for two more and Griff for three more still so our window is now.

Galloway
Bullock
Ish
Ellenson

Saves them 10M next year as only Galloway is on the books past this season. However I don't think they have three players they'd be willing to cut.

Leuer
Ish
Ellenson

Saves them 7M next year as only Leuer would be on the books for one more season.

Hardaway|Kennard
Johnson|Robinson

Drummond|Pachulia

Tim Hardaway is having a heck of a season. I'd be down to trade for him but ideally we would keep Ish as he has been one of the Pistons best players so far.

Ish would be the main selling point for NY here - his $6M expiring. I figure if we brought in THJ there would be no time for Reggie to play the 2-guard anyways, and Casey brought in Calderon as a FA and seems comfortable playing Bruce Brown Jr already as well.

I really don't think the Knicks will be giving Hardaway away for anything the Pistons have to offer outside maybe SJ/Kennard/Bullock for Hardaway or something like that sub the expiring Ellinson for one of those guys.

^Very possibly true. I just see NYK fans on occasion on the TB advocating pure salary dump trades involving THJ. Right now if they find an expiring for Lee, they'd have about $30M in cap space. Make this trade and they'd have $7M-10M more and have an expiring Galloway or Leuer which would be cheaper to dump off with an asset attached to get to near $50M is cap space.

Hardaway is at his highest trade value probably ever right now so you can bet the Knicks will ask for something like Kennard or a 1st.

I would rather try to buy low on Fournier than lose Ish who has been one of our only decent players this season for a guy who is owed a lot more money than he is worth in THJR.

Reggie + small asset for Fournier would be perfect imo.

Orlando would not give away Fournier for Jackson. He is not that bad. More to the point, Jackson is terrible. People should realize this by now. He has very negative value.

We do not have any small assets to give.

I would think expiring contracts like Ish, Bullock, Ellenson and basically SJ are good assets. Especially for any team looking to shed $14million off their payroll.
And come Dec15(?) you could add another $5million with Jose and Zaza.

Keep Bullock and you have enough for THJr or Fournier.

C-Dre Leuer
PF-Blake Leuer
SF-Bullock GR3
SG-Fournier/THJr Luke
PG-RJ Galloway

I would miss Ish though as he has basically been our 2nd best player so far.
So we can give them Galloway instead

Ish is playing really well BUT he's not worth NOT making such a move for. If we brought in a THJ, it means no more minutes for Reggie Jackson at the 2-guard anymore, so we're talking 15 mpg for our back-up PG. I think Brown and Calderon can handle that. Now if/when Jackson goes down to injury we're screwed but Ish ain't a needle mover as a starter either.

We're capped out, so our only move is trade our expirings for a team looking to create space. We have 21M in potential expirings -

Ish @ $6M
Robinson's $4M (next year is a TO)
Johnson $3.9M
Bullock $2.5M
Ellenson $1.9M
Pachulia $1.5M
Calderon $1.5M

Ideally we'd acquire a wing player on a one year longer contract so they expire with Galloway, Leuer, Jackson after next season - we could have upwards of $45M coming off our books that off-season.

Whenever we're winning you disapear, whenever we're terrible again you're here happy to tell us how horrible we are and how negative value our players are

Reggie Jackson is ok in the right situation, Detroit is clearly not the right situation anymore, this is Blake's team, so the ball should be in his hands.

Fournier is good in the right situation, Orlando doesn't seem to be the right situation for him. They need a leader and Reggie can be that for them. They've been starting DJ Augustin for a couple of seasons already, and we all know how bad he is, especially on defense.

More important than that, Fournier has one extra year compared to Reggie. So while I think a Reggie Jackson for Evan Fournier could be arguably bad for either side, I think your view on the subject (as usuall) is pathetic.

We do have a few small assets, SJ, Reggie Bullock are small assets. A distant 2nd is also a small asset. Cash is also a small asset.

Anyways, can't wait for us to win 2-3 games in a row so you disappear again.
