Why? And that's a serious question.

To acquire more talent to our talentless team.
To have an even bigger amount of expiring contracts for 2019-2020 season that we can use in a trade for more draft picks/maybe another player or two that expires same time as Dre or Blake. Repeat process.

So in other words, make moves to lower the team’s draft position before serious moves can be made. No thanks.

Trying to constantly improve on the fly is the recipe for remaining on the treadmill, and anyone who doesn’t believe this to be true hasn’t been following the Pistons for long. That’s how this team got to where it is. Rather than just ride out the wave of suck that can’t be fixed, the team kept trying to fix it.

I hear ya. But if I can accumulate draft picks with my expirings I'm trading my expirings all day every day! :D

Yup this team needs to just let go of everything and stop going for first round playoff exits every season. This team isnt a all star level vet away winning anything. We need to sit back and suck for as long as it takes to land some cheap young talent then start considering trading for a overpaid all star level vet. Were soon enough going to start seeing teams who've made tons of bad decisions over the years pass us just because of draft position like the kings and magic.

This is unquestionably the worst thread of the year so far. Reggie's expiring is literally the only surefire bright spot we have on the horizon. It's a big trade chip next season and if nothing else, some much needed cap relief for a team that basically can't do anything to meaningfully change our roster right now.

Why in the world would you want to give that up, while extending the cap hit for several more seasons and adding to the thinness at the guard position? I honestly thought the fact that we're STILL paying Josh Smith $5.3 million for this season and next would deter anyone from considering this, but here we are.

Jackson is garbage and there's no getting rid of him. We wait till his contract expires.

Reggie's expiring next season is near valueless - so many teams have gonzo big expirings as it's the last season for those cap spike off-season contracts. But stretching him doesn't make sense given he'd be on the books for 6M each of the next three seasons - sure it would give us $11M more to spend next off-season - but on who? I mean if Bullock, Ish and Stanley were worthy of big money and if we desired to keep them it would put us into the tax or something.

Reggie's already taking a big lazy stretch on the court... what's the point?

Phoenix reportedly wants a "playmaker" in a Trevor Ariza trade.

I'd probably trade Dre + Reggie for Ariza + Ryan Anderson + Lottery protected first rounder.

I get the Reggie Jackson hate, but trading Andre Drummond and him for two old guys Phoenix wants to dump and a mid round pick is overboard. Reggie Jackson is almost an expiring, and Andre Drummond is the best in the NBA at his best skill and still has many good product years. Be patient, the Pistons aren't going to be relevant this year or next anyway, not until the Josh Smith/Leuer/Reggie contracts are off the books.
