Well yeah. That would be quite the accomplishment and catapult him into legendary shot blocker status.
Have to go all the way back to 95-96 to have somebody average even 4 blocks per game, which was Mutombo at 4.5 and was his career high. Ben Wallace's high water mark was only 3.5 BPG in 01-02. These are couple of the best shot blockers the NBA has ever seen.
To put a more recent spin on it, the league leader in BPG has been over 3.0 only 3 times since 2008.
So yeah, 5 BPG 80% of the time likely isn't going to happen. But I agree with your overall point, that he's been very engaged in that department lately and its paying off. The question with Dre, especially defensively, is how locked in will he be and how focused? Lately its been good Dre.
