A bad joke is a bad joke only to those on the receiving end.
Exactly. And if the April Fools jokester and others are amused by your reaction, it was a good April Fools joke. Fooling you is the funny part; whether you felt it was funny or good is moot.
Your opinion of what makes a good April fools joke is as moot as anyone else's.
Only if you think people play April Fools jokes that they don't think will be funny to themselves, which of course isn't logical in any way. I didn't state an opinion; I stated a fact. People play April Fools jokes to amuse themselves with the reaction of the other person and the jokes generally bring reactions of surprise, shock, fear, or similar. How often you see an April Fools joke in which the recipient winds up laughing as soon as they are presented with the false premise?
"Hey, did you hear the news? Trump sleepwalked out of the White House this morning and woke up in front of the press naked, then peed himself in shock!"
"Ha ha ha! That's hilarious!"
"Yeah, April Fools."
"Wow! It's even funnier now because I thought it was funny at first thinking it was real, but it really wasn't! LOLLERSKATES!"
"And my joke is funny to me because you thought it was funny at first and then found it even funnier later! What a great joke!"
More like:
"April Fools! LOL! I can't believe you actually bought that, you gullible dumbass!" as the recipient sits there embarrassed.
