Cap going down 2m 2020-21, Blake’s contract

Post#1 » by edmunder_prc » Sun Apr 7, 2019 4:10 am

Here are the details of Griffin's contract, according to Spotrac:

Year Base Salary
2017-18: $29,512,900

2018-19: $31,873,932

2019-20: $34,234,964

2020-21: $36,595,996

2021-22: $38,957,028 (player option)

The Pistons as assembled now are not one player away. Not the kind of players that fit inside our cap.

As the cap goes down, Blake’s contract goes up.

I think its still in the Pistons best interests to trade Blake, if there is a good haul possible back. If a team that missed out on Free agency thus summer has good pieces it would be in Detroit’s best interest to get young guys and picks. Wait for Reggie, Leur and Josh Smiths contracts to end and hope for a brighter tomorrow. Probably trading Drummond the following summer after he was showcased all year wouldnt be a bad idea.

I definitely think selling high on Blake is the right move, but I think we all know it’s not happening.

The cap dropping is one of those things that’s bad for everyone. We’ll see what happens.

Selling Blake now would be a genius Jerry West/Ainge style move. What we'll do is ride him into the first round of the playoffs until he breaks down.

I'd wait to see if Lakers strike out of the best FAs and give them an offer of Blake for Ball Ingram and Kuzma. If they want Kennard, let them have him.

The cap is not going down. In fact, they are projecting it to go up quite a bit the next two years.

Cap is currently $101.8M. Next year they are projecting the cap will be $109M and for 2021 to be $116M.

What did go down $2M is the 2021 projection which was originally for $118M. But if the current projections hold you're looking at pretty healthy jumps the next two years.

For **** sake, for the first time in years the team seems to be in the right direction. We only need a good PG and a 3-D SF. Since Dwane arrived we haven’t make any stupid move. Next year we will have Leuer, Reggie and Galloway expiring which is a great opportunity. Also, this draft offers a lot of options for someone who need a SF project.

Everything is happening that way because Blake is good at dealing with pressure and gives room room to grow peacefully to other players. Drummond is the most benefited for this situation.

Yeah, cap is going up - just not as much as projected last year. Blake still fits fine. I mean every players contract is going up - it's usually how it works on long term deals.

Not saying I wouldn't trade him in the off-season should LAL strike out on free agency and get desperate. Don't want the Ball Circus here though - Ingram, Kuzma and a FRP.

You have to at least consider some offers if a lot of these teams get insanely desperate after striking out on Kyrie, Kawhi, and KD. And they'll come calling for Blake, no questions.

But I don't think Gores/Stef will even entertain them all that seriously.

So we just gonna act like the whole premise of this thread is based off incorrect nothingness?

Blake has two years left with us and then he is going to opt out and go play somewhere he has a chance to win in the playoffs. Just can't see him staying with what we have here. If we were smart we would get assets for him and do a proper rebuild.
