Strange as it sounds maybe Snell expiring next year is better.

Andre may opt in and this years FA class isnt very good. No need for expirings. But next year Snell might get more in return.

Plus Snell has been a very positive player so far. His length has helped in more than a few defensive plays and hes shooting just fine. If he could drive and dunk would be nice but then he wouldnt have been traded.

Having a take that an overpaid role player being on a longer term contract being a positive is peculiar. In theory your argument does make some sense, however expiring contracts tend to be overvalued. Also, we aren't even sure what direction Detroit will be trying to go at this point next season, for all we know they trade Tony Snell for the next "Tony Snell". (overpaid role player on a longer term contract.)

I for one, would stop well short of saying Snell has been "very positive." He's been adequate, which I guess since Detroit has no other real option for SF, thats good enough for them. Snell is one of those guys that knows his role, stays in his own lane with his game and doesn't make many mistakes. I understand when it comes to wing players the bar for Detroit is extremely low, so I can see why some people would think he is fine. However, he is just a very limited player overall and goes through long periods of invisibility.

Snell is a minutes eater, that won't impact the game much for the good or the bad. But since Detroit doesn't have any other options for a primary SF, that will have to suffice. Still, that doesn't change the fact that he is way overpaid.
