Not that cut and dry though with a guaranteed 100M over four vs playing out year for $28M and risking an injury and becoming Boogie Cousins. Sacrifice $3M to guarantee you $75M over next three seasons is a smart decision.

I'm not arguing he's worth that, just arguing doing it from his perspective. I wouldn't give him more than $18-20M a season.

Yea, I'd predict he's back on the Pistons re-upping at 30 per, 3 yrs + option.

I think he and his agent will finally conclude this offseason that there is no market for him at 28 million per and then have a decision to make about whether to take the short term gain (opting in) versus the security of longer guaranteed money via an extension.

I think that it's inevitable that in two years he will be playing for a salary less than what he is making now. It's more of a matter of where.

Highest I'd go is 20 per, anything more is a dumb overpay considering I see him as a purely an asset point of view.

Although we see flashes of potential i think we're always going to see Drummond as having many tools but inconsistent effort and bonehead decisions. I'd rather move him before the deadline myself. Knowing the Pistons luck he'd sign for $20 million for five years guaranteed and get injured shortly thereafter, killing his trade value. I'd rather put this chapter in Pistons history behind us.

I don't think Drummond is worth keeping at $20m+. No team really stands to gain by signing non-shooting bigs to expensive, long-term deals, unless they are named Rudy Gobert. Even he will almost certainly not receive anything near the max. Drummond is not worth such a contract. He's talented, but his combination of poor effort, selfishness, and stupid decisions has bitten the Pistons time and time again. And I think he has proven beyond any doubt that he does not play winning basketball, at least for this organization.

Maybe some team will give him $20-$25 million yearly. I hope that team is not the Pistons. If he succeeds on that team, more power to him. He has not done so here.

That being said, the pistons have an illustrious recent history of outbidding themselves. we’ll get to see who’s really calling the shots, Stefanski or Gores, by the deadline.

What teams can offer him the max outright? Also what teams are in a position to make a move that would put them in position to sign him?

$20 mil would be about the top I would go. If someone offers more than that, fine. We just can't afford to pay him as a #1 when he's only going to be our #3.
