Yep, I did say home runs, and it is of course subjective.
I'd personally view those deals not as home runs, but as hitting the ball into the sun. IE, not realistic.
But again, the point was to get a sense of where people's heads were at, and you certainly provided that.

Lol, that's not happening.
Don't forget, Dre is a free agent next year, that alters his value to potential trade partners. I'd be thrilled to land the Nets first for him.
I realize this is a "home run" thread, but landing the Hawks pick under any circumstances is the equivalent of smashing the ball into orbit (yes, I'm taking this baseball metaphor all the way, at me). It's not the "best realistic scenario", it's an entirely unrealistic scenario.
The more I see it, Dre is NOT becoming a free agent this off season. Why would he turn down 28 mil. Nobody will offer him that. Nobody. He won't get a max from a smart team. As for the Nets pick, it won't be conveyed this year and if is not conveyed this year being top 14-15 protected, it turns into 2 second round picks. Doesn't do much for me really. I don't see a trade with atlanta. I'm hoping we get the Knicks to be desperate for a star like Dre. They always overpay.

You're mistaken on the Brooklyn pick protection.SamFlow wrote:Snakebites wrote:SamFlow wrote:If we don't get reddish, we should get the hawks pick....not the brooklyn pick.

The reason for Dre to opt out seems obvious:
Between us, Atlanta, New York there could be a monster deal for him.
In 2021 maybe not

Yeah, very little competition for FA money this offseason, especially with the only true max guy available being Anthony Davis, who's basically a lock to resign in LA.
Plus, he doesn't even need to get 28 million per for it to be worthwhile to opt out. A longer contract at somewhat less per year is worth it for the added security.
It's not unthinkable that he opts in, but my money is on him opting out. This is something I've changed my mind on, I agreed with Sam Flow at the start of the year.

I just want to trade Rose and Galloway for picks.
If we can move Drummond, cool. If not, I'm ok, he barely has an impact on winning so I'm not worried about the tank

Re: What’s your trade deadline home run?
I could very easily see Dre opting out. A 5-year, $90 million guaranteed contract is a lot more money than $28 million, like "set for life" money with decent financial management. It would be stupid to not take even something as low as $18 million a year on a long term deal just to cash in on ONE YEAR at $28 million. He could suffer a career-ending injury, become even more obsolete, etc. And it clearly looks like his value is dropping like a rock as each day passes.

How much money would it cost him to get a 100M insurance policy against career ending injury?
Weaver = Hinkie
VW to Portland

Probably in the ballpark of $7 million. But that's if someone is willing to write it.
EDIT: I had forgotten about the idea of simply taking out an insurance policy, which makes me think Dre WILL take the PO because there’s no way in hell he’s going to offered a free agent deal for $28M a year. And given that his game is almost TOTALLY dependent on his athleticism (imagine Dre with Monroe-like athleticism; he’d be worthless) it would make sense that a 4-5 year deal is the most he can expect. 4/80 or 5/90-95 is what he may be looking at so he may as well take the $28M and buy some insurance. Which makes me sad because I’d rather put that money toward young players on short term deals who may not work out so no harm done, but may turn into something. We know what the Pistons get with Dre and I don’t want it anymore. He can put up monster numbers and the team can win big, play close, or lose big. Likewise he can have a garbage game and the team can win big, play close or lose big. He’s not a difference maker and it’s become clear that the entire league recognizes it. Think about it—he’s having what appears to be his best season statistically AND NO ONE WANTS HIM.
