1) absolutely!!
2) we should be trying to have deals finishing at the same time as Blake.
But it depends on the player coming back. If it's a Snell situation (over priced, but useful) you can eat an extra year.
I'd be happy to eat some awful deals for picks/prospects, but I don't pay the bills haha
3) hard to say. With Giannas a possible FA, contending teams will want to clear space for next off-season.

What will the 2022 cap look like? Will there be an amnesty-type event?
That's gonna have a lot to do with whether eating an extra year makes sense.

Re: Taking on salary for picks
I like it, but I'd be very demanding for any relief beyond next season. I think there will be a bigger demand in the summer of 2021.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

NYPiston wrote:My god I hope this is true and will go a long way towards Weaver gaining my trust in that he's implementing a real plan. This is exactly what I've been preaching for the Pistons to do, take on bad contracts with picks. Tighter cap likely putting teams in a further cap crunch, Pistons with lots of cap space, strong free agent class in 2021 potentially and strong 2021 draft potentially. Perfect opportunity for the Pistons to accumulate picks and build a talent base.
Offhand, I don't know any specific situation that offers a fit currently but it's encouraging that this is being rumored.
Absolutely agree with the approach. Detroit is not a FA destination. I'm probably exaggerating, but the last good free agent signing that added a building block to a contender was . . . Chauncey. OUCH
I don't think there is a lot of cost to taking on 2 or 3 years worth of bad contract. Let's be honest, the lineup is crap, and maybe the only player (Woods) who will still be relevant in 3-4 years we'll probably lose in free agency this month. I doubt we will be relevant before 2024, so there is no issue with taking on money from a competitive standpoint, and the worse the contract, the better the pick compensation the Pistons should demand.
Timing should focus on right before the trade deadline -- that is when teams hoping to get into the 2021 FA market will be extra desperate
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind
