Surely you're not putting Giles on Wood's level based on 1 preseason game?

I would have loved for us to sign him and keep Dedmon over Plumlee
Han Solo wrote:Harry Giles 18/14 in 25 mins tonight. Looked like he is going to be great. I begged for him for months. Even made an entire thread geared for him and his FA on Reddit. Called him this year’s Christian Wood. Instead we sign Mason Plumlee.

But Pharaoh...

Signing Giles makes us a much better team - possibly good enough for that 7-10 seed spot we've always been stuck in.

You’re argument against keeping Wood can be used to not go after any legit young talent.

The Iowa State guard did not look that good either. I think you need to calm your ass down. Stanley
Johnson looked like a stud after the first preseason game. The point guard position is the hardest to learn. I’ll wait to call him a bust.

Stewart's hustle and slipperiness on the boards was really impressive. He's ready for minutes and is gonna be a handful for other backup centres.

Bey looked super confident. I think we've got at minimum a good 3&d prospect there.

Hayes has the toughest job adjusting to the NBA as a PG. Gonna need to cut him some slack for a while.

Where was Theo Maledon drafted? Kid looks like a lottery pick.

No summer league. Abbreviated preseason. No time to really install anything. Playing against NBA veterans. It wouldn't surprise me if our rookies were flailing around all season. Those having higher expectations are going to have a pretty tough time this year.

Nig it didn't take Isaiah Thomas that long to produce. He was a beast the moment he step on the court. Look it up mf. Either you got game or you don't

1 preseason game.

The last time a 19 year old who took the keys of a Pistons franchise, ISAIAH LORD THOMAS. You saw greatness from day one. Killian Hayes isn't Zeke.

I love Bey and Stew. Oh well, you can't get all the draft picks right. That's why you never ever draft for position. You take the best talent, period.

Plumlee is trash

Well, Lord Thomas didn't join the NBA during a weird ass 2020 pandemic year but yeah, Hayes will never be as good as Thomas... And that's OK.

Thomas was a hall of famer, all time great, and was a noted basketball prodigy before the age of five. He's outlier, and not a useful comparison for modern young PGs. There have been a number who have started slow in the NBA and developed into solid or even excellent floor generals - Billups, Nash, and Lowry to name three.

So... Killian Hayes isn't Isiah Thomas after one preseason game so he's a bust?
Sheesh, if this is how this board is going to be this season during what will be many rough moments for the rookies I don't know if I want to take part in it.

Just watching the game now. Hayes sucked, but he’s had barely any preseason and he’s 19. Who gives a ****? It’s one game.

I’m quite happy with all the rookies. None of them looked like they didn’t belong there. It’s going to be fun to watch them develop. Especially if we’re resigned to “competing” rather than actually winning.
I could definitely use less rose and more from grant, but this group is interesting to watch at least.

Be aware that some on this board are going to post stuff that you'll just shake your head at

There's some on here that seem to instigate things, just to instigate them.

You don't have to respond to those people or entertain their rubbish.

0-for-5 from the field with 4 TOs in 16 minutes. I'm not sure what this is supposed to mean. Both he and Hayes were sloppy for their debuts.

Give it a few weeks at least, damn.

BTW, Zeke was a year older than Killian is for his debut.

Why in the world are you comparing our rookies first preseason game to an Hall of Famer like IT? Do you even understand how dumb that sounds.

Most of us were hoping he develops into a Dragic type and your over here mad he didnt develop into Zeke 15 mins into his career.

Isaac Okoro - disappointed that we fell 2 spots

Dude is exactly what I thought he was. A closer and a winner.

Kind of suspect that Weaver was targeting Pat Williams over Okoro. Nobodys perfect.

I'm happy with our rookies, but none will be better than Okoro. If we can get Cade Cunningham or Moses Moody next year we'll be ok
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

This should be our lineup going forward

Hayes/Rose
Svi/Jackson
Bey/Grant
Grant/Sekou
Griffin/Stewart

The Plumlee signing only makes sense IF we are able to trade Griffin at the deadline.

Sure, you can try and get the Plumlee signing to make some sort of 'sense' from a roster construction perspective if you are successful at trading Blake. But that's a big if. So much so that no one in their right mind would do the transactions in the order we will have done it. Plus, there were better FA bigs that could have been had for cheaper / less years this offseason even if you were fully convinced you could trade Blake.

So yeah... still doesn't make a lot of sense. Unless you go with the theory that Josh Bartelstein who is the Pistons' executive VP of operations just did his dad -- Mark Barlelstein, agent of Plumlee -- a favor by signing Plumlee.

I honestly believe there was at least some influence related to that which contributed to false / inflated evaluation of Plumlee vs other available FA bigs. Or it's straight up greasy-palmed nepotism. Sadly not the first time in the current regime (Sirvydis with Tellum's son)
